Terrible copy quality broadcast on RTE tonight

I was trying to watch the movie 'Tokyo Sonata' tonight on RTE 2, but every few mins the audio & video would begin to degrade and then just go. They'd go to an RTE title screen and then it would back up 5mins into the movie. Kept happening over and over right up to the end of the movie with no 'apologies for technical fault' message during or any acknowledgement afterwards... O_o

Serves ya right. Shouldn't be watching them foreign movies on St Patricks day anyways.

Nah, i saw that myself, but wasn't paying attention to the movie so i don't really know to what extent it spoiled it.

It looked like a problem with the tape or VTR - the way the picture/sound broke up was very different to any MPEG-2 compression from broadcasting. It got progressively worse - I'm not really sure what happened at the end of the film as they kept switching to the "RTE TWO" card. Very annoying. It seemed like it took them a while to even notice there was something wrong - they obviously don't have enough staff to deal with technical problems that time of night.
