    Hey man,

this is a pretty helpful site for the current known space marine chapters:

personally I would go with something like Iron Hands, they're bad ass and no one really plays them. Alternatively you could do a pre heresy legion which only a few play.

    Or Angels Porphy:

Also Legion of the Damned have a few new models out which look raelly nice!

Are you going to be playing the game or just painting?

want to get back playing when I have the time. rubbish at painting so will struggle to paint the models, some things never change ha ha. I like the Iron Hands, only thing is I think the models will be more expensive. :(

You could also do a chapter that doesn't have mass foot sloggers as troops like ravenwing/white scars/deathwing/10th company/furioso dreads (new BA codex)

again cost factor buddy :( think I may go along the lines of a named chapter but with no rules or history. create my own story to them, like the sound of the space sharks.:D

Just pick a paint colour you like the look of and then have that as the base, maybe with a contrasting one for Company markings/shoulder pads etc. just pick up some cheap Marnes 9either from the main 40k boxset or even old ones friends or others dont want) and slap random paint schemes on until ya get something you like.

Coming up with a backstory or whatever is easy, just take one of the major Chapters and adapt their "idea" with a few changes. My custom Chapter (if i ever get back into the game) are the Storm Hydras, a supposed Salamaders offshoot who reside inside a massive underwater promethium complex, so are great tunnel fighters and favour flame weapons but have little access to jump packs and larger machines due to the confined spaces.

Took finger paints and test ur color theme until u have the colors u want. Finger paints looking really bad, but u can wash them of as often as u want.

Just wondering if the iron hands will be getting a codex of their own ever? Fairly tempt to collected them

They probably won't be getting their own codex however it's fairly straight forward to use a current codex (blood angels, dark angels, black templars, space marines, space wolves) to represent an Iron Hand clan.

Do they get any special rules, wargear or units? they are starting to grow on me :D

Standard marine chapers get great rules now, ideal to form your own chapter if you liked,
new blood angles look great though I think they'll be a lethal force.
Ive got dark angles, to be honest the codex needs an update to bring it more into line with newer rules etc!!

Iron hands would be best fielded as a standard chapter to be honest, as Dark angles, blood angles wolves templars have nothing in common with them. If you can get your hands on the Index Astartes articles from WD a few years back it will give great info on them,
either that or I'm sure the info is online somewhere.

It would be nice to see the remaining founding chapters get their own rules, raven guard, hands, fists and scars. WD could surely manage that :D

Think I am going to go with the space sharks, cause I found some info on them on the website warmaster suggested, plus they have a fairly simple paint job and they should not be as expensive as the Iron Hands to collect.

Ah, the Iron Hands have been relegated to a standard codex army so If you like the colour but don't care about the bionics then they're the same price as all the other codex marine armies :)

Really like the idea behind the Iron Hands but its a shame they don't have their own codex. I think you can get a box of Iron Hands space marines but I think they cost more plus I think to do them justice I will need to convert the models a lot. Hence, I think I can do the Space Sharks better.

The only 'extra' cost with Iron Hands is if you want to invest in sculpted shoulder pads. The main identifying feature of the Iron Hands is their 'iron hand'. This is just painted differently. In normal play you can field an army of black marines with one fist painted silver/metal. Thus you have Iron Hands. They are codex marines so use whatever you want. Obviously for flavour you may want to have more dreadnoughts or tanks but nothing to stop you deciding to have an all infantry Iron Hands clan company. While the older background may say different in the current Edition of the Codex they are standard (vanilla) marines.

My tip in terms of finance would be to buy the Assault on Black reach boxed set. Its the starter box and has a good amount of models to start you off. (think its Eur70-80, has 15 marines,a dread, a captain, 5 termies plus an Ork force to sell/trade)
