    Hi there,
Register now on www.aliveoutside.ie for Slane Castle's first triathlon. We are delighted to announce the most exciting new addition to the Triathlon Ireland calendar for 2010. Are you looking for a new race? Have you got all the other race T-shirts? Do you want more than just a plain Triathlon? Yes? Well, we’ve got a gem of a race in store for you!

Lord Henry Mount Charles has been hosting outdoor concerts since 1981, with world renowned acts such as Rolling Stones, Madonna, Queen, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, U2, Bruce Springsteen, and REM all playing at Slane Castle.

Now this truly iconic Irish venue will be hosting its first triathlon with the blessing of Henry, himself a keen sportsman, where the castle grounds will become your personal battlefield.

Starting with a 750m swim in the River Boyne, entering and exiting the water from just below the embankment of the castle. Participants will swim 375m up river and turn around with a 375m down river swim before exiting the river. The transition zone will be in the grassy lawns, while the bike route will take you down the castle driveway, out the gates and onto a challenging 23km route (2 loops) on the R163 and N51.
The final part of the race is a 5km cross country run within Slane Castle’s hallowed grounds, and yes folks, we have kept the best till last! This run takes you away from roads and traffic, pollution and stress, through a 2.8km tranquil forest section where the overhanging trees create a magical natural canopy. You could actually be in another world!

The climax is without doubt your run towards the finish line where you exit the forest and sweep down through the natural amphitheatre and approach the final 300m. With the finishing gantry in sight and Slane Castle acting as a majestic backdrop, you will cross the finish line to the cheers of family and friends in what is certain to be a cherished memory.

And we hope you will stay around after the race to unwind and meet fellow triathletes in the relaxed atmosphere of the Slane Castle courtyard. Your registration fee includes a free Hog Roast BBQ meal, while there will be bar facilities available to perhaps celebrate a new personal best, the completion of your first Triathlon or just having the craic. And as Slane is a mecca for music, we will have live music to compliment a great post race atmosphere. We cannot promise U2 (Bono isn’t sure if his swim times are up to the race), but you never know?!

So register now for the Alive Outside Sprint Triathlon at Slane Castle… the “must do” race for 2010.

    Costs:
Individual sprint registration = €65 per person
Team relay is €105 = €35 per person

    Included in price:
    Race entry
    Hog roast meal
    Live music
    Post race party

Ya maybe if they got rid of the Hog Roast, Live Music and Post party and bring it down to 40-50 euro I might do it but 65 is just a rip off

A May triathlon with an upstream swim and a grass transition area......I hope it doesn't rain heavily that week.......

Just to say... although I criticised the price above, I have now taken part in two alive outside races and both have been top notch. I may well sign up for this one based on that.
