    Hi guys,

I have a Compaq Presario with a broken lcd screen running xp, I'm currently running it on an external monitor. I'm just wondering will this cause problems when I'm formating and installing 7?

I presume it will output the display to the connected monitor the whole way through the process?

It will not cause the problems. You can format and install Windows 7.

I'm not to sure if it will display on the monitor during the install. When you turn the laptop on does it automatically divert to the external screen or do you need to hit a shortcut/function key to do it?

It might work via VGA or S-VIDEO.

It automatically switches on startup so I just hope it continues to do this.

It should. If needed hold the function key down and hit the monitor/screen toggle button (usually F5/F7) to cycle the lcd/screen combos

    Ok thanks guys:)

One more question before I start, my laptop has a recovery partition (D: drive) and im assuming a clean install on (C: drive) will not touch this in case I have to revert to XP?
    Am I right?

As long as you select the big partition to install on any others are left alone so you should be good to go. Enjoy!

Thanks guys!:) Everything went grand with the display being output to the monitor the whole way through.

Didnt wipe the c: drive just booted and installed from the dvd, now I have a windows.old folder which I presume I can delete?

Also whilst I was playin around installing AVG the laptop shut off a few times, Im not sure whether this was because of a loose power cord or overheating? The fan was on high and I was looking at temps of around 75-80 using core temp? Hasnt happened since tho.:)
