Thank you for registering for Brown Thomas Mystery Shopping.
Mystery Shopping Visits are now available to book out online.

    The Mystery Shop…
A typical mystery shop would involve a trip to your nearest Brown Thomas or BT2 Store, where you will need to assess a specific department. You will be asked to make an enquiry with a staff member and make a purchase, spending at least €30. You would then complete an online questionnaire about how you rated the shopping experience. Your feedback will be used as a training tool for staff and will be vital in making sure Brown Thomas and BT2 continue to offer the best service. You should carry out the mystery shop as part of your normal shopping plans.
As a thank-you for your time we would send you a Brown Thomas €10 gift card.

When you book a visit you have two full days to complete it, feedback must be entered the same day. Because we want to get feedback from real customers shopping in Brown Thomas and BT2 the way they normally would, you’ll be able to view available mystery shops to see if there is a slot that fits in with your planned shopping trip.

Customers can book one store visit on our system per month. If you are interested in completing more than one visit, please contact us via email or phone.

If you don’t see a visit you’d like to book, try checking back in a few days time or email emma@abaresearch.co.uk to ask whether there are any

    available visits.

If you book a visit you’ll be sent a confirmation email along with full briefing notes, telling you exactly what you will need to do. It is essential that you read the briefing notes prior to completing a mystery shop.

    To see an example of the questionnaire you would be required to complete please click the link below;
    http://www.aba-i.co.uk/showAgentQuestionnaire.aspx?strRef=739

    Searching for visits…
Log in at www.aba-i.co.uk <http://www.aba-i.co.uk> and click on the Brown Thomas logo.
There are two ways you can search for a visit; you can either select ‘local’ or ‘other’, please ensure the ‘open visit’ option is selected.

So you spend money and they give you a voucher.

Sounds like an elaborate affiliate scheme. Why go to the effort?

Still though, be careful of these mystery shopping agencies. Some will ask for a registration fee and then not pass on any work.

This was on The Real Hustle a couple of weeks ago. Not Brown Thomas(TM) -[Please don't sue me] but they set up an agency to hire "mystery shoppers", it's incredible how gullible some people are in this day and age. If I can dig up a video of it I'll stick it up.

When filling out the questionaire, how are you made proove proof of purchase?

Ah its a scam, I think there would be a few indicators along the process that would give it away to a participant.

When filling out the questionaire, how are you made proove proof of purchase?

Usually you'd have to either scan the reciept or fax it to the company.

It's very low of BT to target people who cannot afford* to shop there.

Your average BT shopper would sneer at a €10 voucher.

    * OK they might have 3 tenners to rub together but unless they have the credit cards and loans cleared, pension, college funds for the kids, 6 months salary in savings, health insurance for all the family etc etc, they can't truly afford to blow €30 on a bloody lampshade or something.

    Was actually thinking that.
Spend at least €30...well that's because there is nothing in there that costs less than €30 anyway....
Wouldn't ever shop in Brown Thomas these days anyway.
Seem to have gained some common sense over the past few years.
    Internet FTW!!

Edit: It's hardly a scam. I think it's quite smart on their part.
You buy something for €60 and then get your €10 voucher.
Come back with your €10 voucher and buy something else for €60.
Means they get €110, and you get ripped off.
Same as any other day in BT really...

    What's their returns policy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,555 ✭✭✭Gillington

There are people that would spend €30 twice a month in BT easy and this would be more suitable to them.

Don't get your penney's knickers in a twist

I dont know but i will not be buying anything bar the coffee pods

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 95 ✭✭__________

Even if it was €10 cash and not a voucher, for just doing the few hours work, it's really not worth all the hassle. Commuting into town, spending time in BT chatting to the staff, purchasing something, commuting back home, logging onto the internet, spending another hour or whatever filling in a questionairre. Who has time to do all that for 10 quid?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 955 ✭✭✭Pot Noodle =

    Exactly

    Don't really see how it's a scam.

They're telling you not to go out of your way, but to instead, do it as part of your normal shopping routine. It's more like a "fill in our survey for €10 voucher".

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,739 ✭✭✭✭starbelgrade

I always thought that Brown Thomas would be a great name for a gay bar.

But you have to spend 30 lids on something that you dont wont ,and get €10 back for the privileged of doing so

I think the whole point is that you don't actually have to do it if you don't want to, but if you do, then you get a tenners voucher. If a supermarket ran the same scheme, there'd be no complaints.

not really a scam if they explain it all to you tho is it?

    I don't get you?

Why not just spend it on something you do want. If there's nothing you want in BT then you're not going to want a €10 voucher in the first place.

oh right and how much do you think they should be paying people to come into the shop and buy something. hardly a high skilled task is it? BT are a business. they're in the business of making money, not giving it away.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 81 ✭✭lost_soul

Its not a scam. I've done it for them a few times before. I usually just return whatever I buy afterwards and get a full refund or else I use the €10 voucher to buy something i want. It takes no more than half an hour to do it.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 9,722 Mod ✭✭✭✭Twee.

Not a scam at all, they state they want regular customers, and to fit the task within their shopping day. So, if someone usually shops in BT, they're probably spending over 30 anyway, so if they just take a few minutes to do the questionnaire, they get a tenner voucher towards their next purchase. Grand!
