travel expenses on medical card

I've been on JSB nearly 9 months and have a medical card. I've started a work placement through FAS (WPP1).

I've seen on the HSE site that the medical card can cover your travel expenses to work. As I'm not getting paid I presume I should be eligible.

How do I go about claiming these expenses and is it a long drawn out procedure? Do I show the shop where I buy my bus ticket my card or do I just keep the receipts and send them into the health board office every month?

    Thanks in advance

What is meant is that in making the decision on whether you qualify for a Medical Card, the HSE takes into account how much you spend on travel to work as well as on childcare, on rent and mortgage costs.

    from http://www.hse.ie/eng/services/Find_a_Service/entitlements/Medical_Cards/
For Medical Card Applications, the HSE only considers your income after tax and PRSI is deducted, rather than total income. We also make allowances for expenses on childcare, on rent and mortgage costs and on travel to work.
