What is the point in having this really? ok it effects the seller or buyer percentage wise..but when your continually over priced in postage..there's nothing done about it on e-bay's end.

You can see the postage costs up front, so if you think it's too much, don't buy. It's not like it's going to come as a surprise. eBay don't control the price of delivery, so why should they do anything about it? It's nothing to do with eBay.

What you need to look at is the overall price, including postage, and decide whether that's worth it or not. Personally, I'd rather pay $1 for the item and $50 for postage than $50 for the item and $10 for postage, if the item is worth $60 or more. Large postage costs usually result in lower overall cost to the buyer.

While I agree with your logic we think very differently ;). I wouldn't bid or buy the $1 item at $50 postage on the basis that if the seller is bending the rules on postage he is probably likely to be fiddling in some other way. If the postage is really high because of the size or weight of the item then it could cost you $50 to send it back if there is a problem. You then get your $51 refund so are $50 down on the deal.

I've got really fussy about what is quoted for postage and how the seller handles it, if the actual postage is within say 5euro of the actual price and the item is well packed and posted quickly then 5 stars, cheap posting, poor packing and slowness to post could easily get positive feedback but only one star for P&P performance. 3 more buyers like me and the seller could be in trouble with eBay.

    Edit> eBay Seller Performace Standards

I have no problem with them. I have posted before about it.

people are ignorant of how ebay works. Personally I seek out people charging outrageously high postage, its 2 fingers to ebay/paypal.

If you postage really is €5 on an item, and you quote €105 all you have done is cover yourself on postage, and in effect created an opening bid of €100. i.e. if somebody bids €1 they really bid €101.

This cuts out paypals profits. When you sell on ebay you have to pay ebay a percentage of the selling price, BUT THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE POSTAGE.

So say ebay take 4% of the selling price. So in my example above if I quoted €5 to cover myself, I would have to have an opening bid of €104.17 to make the same profit, since ebay will take ~4% of that €104.17 reducing it to €100. So if I "mask" it in the postage they get nothing. So I and more importantly (and often not realised) THE BUYER both benefit.

This is why I search for high postage, I know that if there are 2 sellers buying from the same supplier and working on the same margin then the high postage one can offer it cheaper. In fact I have often found the same seller doing this with mulitple buyitnow auctions, he sells the same stuff on 2 auctions and the higher postage one is cheaper.

the only probem with high postage is that if fcuks up your dsr ratings and if they get fcuked up your listings get low visibilty
