I just picked up my new car yesterday (Black '08 159 ) and obviously I haven't got the logbook yet so it's not taxed yet, nor do I have the correct insurance disc as it hasn't been sent out yet (transferred insurance over tho). So I'm going to the North on Thursday, am I going to have any problems with a blank windscreen up there? It's a trip I booked a while ago :o

You shouldn't have the car on the road if you have no tax, regardless of the current situation in which you can't tax the car. I don't know what they'll think of this up North, I guess they could impound your car like they can here depending on their mood.

The PSNI have become VERY strict on this at times. The car needs to be 100% road legal in the Republic for it to be allowed on the NI roads and they can and recently have begun siezing cars with out of date / non-present Irish tax.

They are absolutely allowed do this. I wouldn't risk it.

They seem to be quite unreasonable about such matters

You can tax the car without the log book.
Ive done this before- they can see if its in your name at the tax office (ie out of the old owners name) and if it is they can tax it.
