Castrol Magnatec vs Castrol Edge

    Guys,
    A mechanic friend is changing the oil on my car(2001 A4 diesel).
    I usually go for the Castrol Edge(€54.99) but notice that the Magnatec is only €29.59 at Halfords.
    Would the Magnatec be just as good?

    Question asked about Magnatec is if it's so good how come they don't sell it in the US. Conclusion people are reaching is because it's not actually that good, but Castrol haven't said.

    Oil for my own car surpasses Edge but is only €6.21 a litre from the manufacturer.

    Edge is the recommended oil - I would use that if you want to use castrol. I thought magnatec was only for petrol cars anyway

    Halfords (Carrickmines) have good value in Mobil 1 at the moment

    OP - Which grade of Castrol Edge were you quoted for?

    There is Castrol Edge and Castrol Edge Sport. The Edge Sport is the replacement for the Castrol RS oil and is designed for race engines. I paid less than 50euro for 4litres of Castrol Edge Sport 10W60 a month ago so I reckon you can get the Castrol Edge cheaper elsewhere.
