Hi, I have my embassy appointment on Fri morning and have done nothing yet in the line of filling out stuff. I was told I need to fill out some DS-160 form online, and print it off to bring in to go4less first thing Fri morning before my interview. I also need to get pics done but what is all this about having to upload them? Bloody J1 gets more complicated every year it seems. Anyone who has done their embassy interview care to help with what needs doing?
    Thanks

    Hey Deadmoney,
I would fill out the DS-160 as soon as you can, they like you to have it done in advance. Just be careful not to loiter too much filling it out or it will time out and you'll have to start again. Or just keep saving it as you go along.

As regards the photo, it's to upload onto the DS-160 before you print it out. I went to the chemist to get mine done because the measurements were so specific. Of course, they ended up failing the quality test on the embassy website so I took one with my webcam in total frustration and it ended up working. If they won't accept your picture, just bring along a signed 2x2 photo to the interview with you.

Besided that you need the sevis receipt, DS-2019, proof of student status, proof of further study or a job offer, a bank draft to the embassy for $131, your passport and a return address envelope. Think that's it! :D

Thanks, will fill out the DS form 2nite online. About the digital photo though, how are you supposed to upload it? I have no scanner or anything so can I just bring it along signed and have them upload it at the embassy? Also, how much did your pics cost?

I had a scanner. You can usually get a chemist to put it on a cd for you for a little extra though. Mine were about €6 for 2 copies but I didn't get a cd. I'm sure you can just bring it along to the embassy if you have any bother uploading it.

Crap, I have no photos got and am down home for the week so no access to scanners or anything. Tomorrow being Paddy's day I won't be able to get photos taken so it will be thurs now when I get back to Dublin and my embassy interview is fri morning. If I fill out my DS 160 on thurs and upload my photo then will that be ok? Go4less told me to call in on Fri morning to collect my documents I need to bring to the embassy along with the printed confirmation of my DS 160 being filled out.

EDIT: it says on the guidelines for the DS 160 that if you cannot fill out the form without uploading a pic as it will not be accepted.

I'm sure filling it out on Thurs should be grand.

I'm nearly sure that isn't true. When my photo kept failing to upload it asked if I wanted to continue on without a picture. So I wouldn't worry about that.

Thanks so much for the help just did it there, some of my dates of when I was in the US before were a little off as I could not remember but should be fine. The last few times I was in the states you had to fill this form out at the airport when u arrived or before you went so its actually much handier having it done online before you go.
