I know its not strictly Irish rugby related but congrats to Tom Prydie on hopefully becoming Wales youngest international at 18 years old

Fair play to Wales. It's going to be very beneficial come World Cup time to give all these young guys experience. I wish we'd do the same against Scotland considering we aren't going to win the championship anyway.

Fair play to Gatland for taking a chance on Prydie but it's very harsh on Halfpenny to be dropped from the 22. It makes no sense to have 2 centres on the bench and leaving out Halfpenny.

It doesn't really need to be Irish related afaik. :pac:

Does seem odd to start a winger when I can't really remember Halfpenny or Williams doing much wrong. Either way, fair play to him.

Prydie is more a full back than a wing (though is quickest player in the welsh squad). Maybe this is a warning to Byrne that there is someone in the wings. While harsh on halfpenny he is due for an operation I think in the summer so that may have some bearing on it

Halfpenny and Williams are both Lions. With the opposition being poor I think it could be that Gatland has just rested Halfpenny and told him it's not based on performance at all, and is more a squadbuilding thing, because both of those guys are clearly fantastic players.

I can't remember Prydie at all. I must have seen him play but I really don't remember it. I'll be interested to see how well he performs.

Ah yes, lets give up a potential Triple Crown to give some young guys one game at the end of a tournament!

Firstly I would have no problem throwing away a triple crown if it meant we saw the strongest squad possible come WC time. Secondly playing a few young players won't necessarily spell defeat. Your cautious attitude and emphasis on the importance of a consolation trophy remind me of EOS.

kmart6, Co45, pursue this no further. I'm sick ofthe petty sniping and backbiting on the forum in the last few days. No more or infractions and/or bans will follow. Keep it civil and leave out the digs/attitude from here on in.

While Wales are struggling this year because they dont have depth in the positions they have had injuries in, they will this year I expect give a fair amount of playing time to younger players resulting in a good crop of young players being around this time next year including :
    Bradley Davies (23), H'penny (22), Lydiate (23), Warburton (21), K Phillips (19), Biggar (20), Prydie (18), G Owen (22), J Roberts (24), AWJ (25).

Wales are developing a squad here. Ireland pick the same team every week

I wonder who will be in better shape come the World Cup.

Wales are picking a different team every week because they've performed absolutely awfully. I'd be confident of Ireland beating any conceivable team that Wales could put out. All the depth in the world won't change the fact that Ireland are a better team than Wales.

Allot can happen in a year. Wales are no joke in rugby terms.

It's weird I agree with both you and Podge. I feel that Podge makes a good point but I also feel that a lot can happen a year and we should be ensuring that we do actually have the best 22 we can offer come WC and that means trying out players in the same vein we saw O'Driscoll introduced all those years ago. Either way im drunk and have things to do, happy paddys day
