Since Druid's is one of my favourite courses I thought I'd find out how the offer went, so I called them up and was told that during the month of the offer, 3,500 golfers played the course. I've had a look at the old thread, and even the boards members who played it late were saying how good the condition was.

They've had a load of emails thanking them for the chance to play such a great course, and with another recession affected summer ahead, the goodwill generated will encourage golfers to try it for the first time, or go back for seconds, or thirds, or tenths in my case.

Oh, and there are more offers to come.

yeah. Well done to Druids glen. I must say I really enjoyed my day. Staff were excellent. Very friendly even in the face of some abuse that I was shocked to witness from someone who used to post here.

I stayed and ate there after. Top quality food and not overpriced either. If I was up that way again I'd certainly return.

Kevin- im not sure it is all as positive as you seem to portray. This offer will never happy again at Druids Glen. Lets just say not all the shareholders were in agreement. If you want details, pm me.

However, you are right about how well the course showed itself. A good few people might go back and pay greenfees and perhaps one or two might even consider joining. But that is a high price to pay for 3000 free rounds which did have a detrimental effect on the condition of the course.

Nope, they gave away just enough to keep me interested. I expect you'll receive an email in due course. And for those that couldn't get out, I think they're planning to honour the vouchers in September or October. Hope you haven't binned it.

And that was what it was all about.

I'd have to disagree - it's very positive indeed. I appreciate that shareholders may not be happy, but the weather behaved fairly well, the course remains in good nick (from what I'm told), and several hundred people will be talking about it for some time. When was the last time Mount Juliet or the K Club got plugged on the boards or in the press? My background is marketing, and when times are tough this sort of offer will generate coverage that puts Druid's Glen in the spotlight for society outings and corporate and charity days.

The offer may never happen again, but I'd bet that the other big boys are sweating a lot more now, as they try to work on some offers of their own.

I had a voucher and got a tee time booked for the Glen but like many days over the month period the day i was due to play was delayed cause of frost. Like many others we had two options, play the Glen and get a delayed tee time by up to 3 hours, risk not getting in the full 18 or play the Heath and play a full round.

We decided to play the Heath. Ok it would not be in the same league as the Glen but I was well impressed. After the initial feeling that we were playing the lesser of the two courses it didn't strike me till half way down the first fairway that this could be decent track. Standing on the 2nd tee (par 5) thinking were will I put this ball was fun, the 3rd par 3 over water another good hole. Greens were very quick and in good nick. 14th a little par 3 is a cracker. Absolutely no complaints, found it a great course. Had a quick bite to eat after in the clubhouse type place beside the pro shop.

To be honest I like 99% of people on here wouldn't pay €150 or near that amount for a round on the Glen in the summer but I'll definitely will be back to one of the Heath's Monday open days at €35, if the Glen did a special offer for an open at a decent price yeah I would go play there when I wouldn't have even considered it before this offer.

No, i do agree, marketing wise, it was a success. Any publicity is good publicity. Im just not sure they will get a good return on the offer in terms of green fees and membership. After all, no offence to anyone, there were alot more vans and old cars (my own included) in the carpark during february and march than has been in there before.

Just received my first email from Druids offering new reduced rates. This is the first time they have used the database they gathered during the free golf offer. Has everyone received their mail?

Enjoy A Fourball For The Price Of Two At Druids Glen

Especially for you...A limited offer, only to you, our e-club special offer members.

Druids Glen take pleasure in sharing a great mid-summer offer with you, for the following four dates only in June:

    Monday 7th June 2010
    Friday 11th June 2010
    Sunday 13th June 2010
    Wednesday 30th June 2010

This limited offer allows for a fourball for the price of two! And the best bit is we are also extending our winter price of €90 per person instead of our summertime price of €120 per person, for this offer only.

That's a fourball for €180 instead of the regular €480.

I always like to check out the motors in the members car park in Druids. There is nearly always something special there.

I'm getting down there myself for a round tomorrow afternoon, so really looking forward to it. There is NO better place to be on a summer afternoon.

I'll let ye know what the condition is like after the 3,500 guests.
