05+/B6 Passat - Headlights Question

    Hi folks,

Can anyone explain the difference between the Hella and Valeo headlight units for the current B6/3C Passat line.

Also, as I asked in another thread on the main forum, does anyone know if VW changed the internal fittings on these units but would have kept them under the same part number?

Reason I ask is I've had to get a headlight unit (passenger side) replaced in my own 06 Passat but the garage is telling me they cant now fit my aftermarket HID kit because there's nowhere for the H7 bulb it comes with to "clip into"? Apparently they can't get the original style headlight unit anymore, only one with with this "different" fitting.

Surely a H7 bulb is a H7 bulb and if a standard halogen one will fit, this should too?

    Cheers for any insight..

I would agree with you. A H7 bulb is a H7 bulb. Maybe get them to refit the original bulbs and you can then refit the HID kit yourself. You may need to get the Dremel out if there's a slight design change to get it to fit.

I fitted a HID kit to my wife's Audi A2. The bulb holder (the wire bit that goes over the back of the bulb to hold it in) had to be modified slightly to fit over the HID bulb. Not a big deal. I'd imagine it's something like that they they've run in to.

You may need something like this

Hella and Valeo are simply spurious and always slightly different. They OEM would be very expensive to replace.

Hella and Valeo are both OEM suppliers to VW, if you source a lamp unit direct from them you are getting the same unit you get from VW.
