    ARRGGGHHH!!!

Sorry but since I've moved the sky+ box to the bedroom it's been wrecking my head, the hard drive is soooo loud, it makes noise, then stops for a minute or two then off it goes again, is there anyway to stop it making noise and just be a good quiet sky+ box?

(obviously without turning it off from the switch)

I presume you mean it's making noise when you have the TV off? It's most likely programmes being downloaded for Anytime. You can turn Sky Anytime off by going to 'Services', 'Anytime TV Setup' and set it to 'disabled'.

It is probably on auto record, so you can rewind the program you are watching. Your box might be set up to record the channel you are watching so you can rewind 'live tv' and the noise you hear might be this. If you don't put the box into stand-by it will still do this even though the tv is off.

In services go to sky+ set up and you can turn off this auto record function, down side of this is you can't rewind the football (remember to hit the record button if you want to). You can set the time to record live tv at 5, 30 and 60 mins if I remember correctly.

Hopefully this solves the problem for you.
