    Hi,

I'm not sure if this would be the correct forum to ask this question. My apologies if it isn't.

I was hoping someone could tell me how much an MRI scan costs on average in Ireland.

I think I may need a scan in my knee to ascertain the severity of a meniscus tear in my knee. I'm really just trying to get an idea of the costs involved.

    Thanks for any help given,

    Cheers!

Between €250 and 700 depending on the the area to be scanned and the clinic used. The quality of the scanners affects the price as well. Some are higher resolution and are more expensive.

Quite expensive but it's not as bad as I was expecting. (I had a crazy figure in my mind) I'd imagine that the knee would be somewhere at the lower end of the scale.

Thanks a million for your reply.

If you have private health insurance, the cost for an outpatient scan ( to you ) can be nothing.

It pays to shop around. Some of the private MRI scanners are doing knees for <€200 now! If you are paying out of hand that is

What region are you living in, OP?

If you live in the northeast, you can get an MRI done in Drogheda free on the public system provided you have been referred by a Consultant in either of the 5 hospitals (Cavan, Monaghan, Navan, Drogheda or Dundalk) - and the waiting list is not very long.
