Hi does anyone know an approx figure for this? Have O2 given out figures on it at any stage?

I would imagine that the true number is far greater when you consider the number of iphones brought in from abroad

Would be great to find out the O2 figures at least - many thanks

Don't know but I heard somewhere that since apple iPhones have started being sold they have outsold all windows mobile handsets ever sold worldwide.

    I think that's mad!

I'll try and find where I heard it and post it back here.

I'd be interested to know the total Irish sales as well. Unfortunately it seems O2 don't release these figures. And Apple don't provide a break-down of sales by country.

80,000 sold to date. Surprisingly low really...

The number would probably be double that if they had released it on PAYG at the start instead of keeping it to there ridiculous contracts, but suppose they gotta make there money!

I have heard as low as 25,000. I wouldn't be surprised that Apple have surpassed sales of Windows Mobile phones as it seems to be an unpopular OS. Apple is still behind both Nokia and Blackberry in the Smartphone market in Europe and Motorola and Blackberry in the USA.

From a report that I have seen is that Android compatible phones have been growing their market share faster than Apple in the USA (this is unsurprising given the number of manufacturers and handsets that are Android compatible). Other data seems to indicate that there is more Internet usage by Android handsets than iPhones.

It seem that app builders would be better off building for android but what Android lacks is the killer app that apple has - iTunes.

Not a hope. iPhone sales are about 40+ million worldwide so far. Winmo - with phone functionality - has been around since 2001 and while it's not so popular outside of the US (kinda of the reverse of nokia have next to no presence in the States), it still manages to sell an awful lot (15+ million p.a.) despite plunging marketshare.

Your best bet is probably to write to the iPhone providers (Write, not email) and see will they release the data.
