Questions about Disability Allowance

Hi guys, posting off my bf's account because I haven't gotten round to getting my new password yet :p

So, I was recently diagnosed as being bi-polar, and am basically not in a great way to work. I'm too scared of men to even face an interview, although I have tried and had lovely big panic attacks in front of them

So, I am considering looking into getting on DA. I have a few questions though -

How do I go about it? Do I need letters from my psychiatrist (because I don't see him again til May), or from my GP? Proof of medication (I have this already)?

How exactly does the process work?

And lastly, do they help with housing? Because I live in what most people would call an unfit household. Just tonight I was kicked in the back by my older sister and kicked out of the house... And no, these aren't childish fights, they all stem from resentment over me being "ill" mentally.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You'll need documents from your psychiatrist confirming you have a disability.

Your application will take several months to process after it is received by the social welfare. You will receive arrears for the amount of money backlogged since your application was received if your application is successful.

About the housing issue, you may possibly qualify for rent allowance but I'm not sure.

Thanks very much! I was mainly wondering whether I'd need a GP or psych to confirm it, so thanks for that. Much appreciated :D

You can get your GP to fill out the DA form, documents from the psychiatrist are not necessary, they may further support your claim though if you wish to include them but they are not necessary.
