A level lawn and filler beneath topsoil

I'm in the process of levelling an area to plant a lawn. However I have taken out the foundations of an old wall and path which has left 2 deep trenches in the area. What should I fill these trenches up with? I have some stones that I had taken, would mixture of big stones and clay be acceptable to say just under 7/8 under level which I will then fill up with topsoil?

i think you can fill in these trenches by stones. grass need about 15cm of topsoil to grow. just if you will wont to plant some shrubs after few years then you will be in the trouble
