    Hey,
Looking at getting mats for bjj sparring at home. Would these play mats from smyths be ok? I don't know if there's a special type that offer better protection?

Hey, we have mats like this at our gym. Basically, the're fine for rolling, but not take downs. I'm assuming you'll be indoor on a carpeted floor. Otherwise you may consider a double layer. Hope this helps.

That's great! May need two layers on the wood floors! Thanks

If you try Mullins Sports, Mary Street he will give you a good deal on mats (the proper ones ) for your gym. I got some and they are excellent.

Below is a post of mine from a thread on mats a few weeks ago, hope this helps.

I recently bought these jigsaw mats on ebay for the gym I've set up in my extension at home.

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=170426036724

They are 25 mm thick which is 5mm thicker than the ones in Smyths, they also come with the edging too, the Smyths ones don't. Each mat is 2ft x 2ft.

For the amount I got (144sq ft), it would have cost me €225 in Smyths. I got a better mat delivered to my door in about 3 days from the UK for €156.

They are ok for rolling and home use, I wouldn't fancy doing throws or heavy takedowns on them. If you wanna see what they look like laid out in my gym send me a pm.
