Tonight I went in to my local petrol station and on the way out I noticed a woman was filling her car with fuel,in her other hand she had a bottle of beer and a lighted ciggy. Thinking about it,I'm not sure what surprised me more, someone actually drinking while driving (well technically she was) or smoking while getting fuel. I said to her do you realise that could blow up,she laughed and said something which I didn't hear because I had closed my car door and headed for the exit. I've met some stupid people in my time, but she has to take first prize. TBH I'm a little shocked that someone could be so thick.

    Actually,I'm shocked I'm so shocked.

A cigarette cannot ignite petrol, it's not nearly hot enough to do so

    Mythbusters ftw:D

If we all did a little bit of this the country would be out of recession by the end of the month :)

The petrol isn't ignited, it's the fumes that burn. I saw a Mythbusters where their answer was wrong, can't remember what it was now though. If she was filling diesel you would be slighty safer, it's hard to get that burning. Why the attendent let her start fueling is the issue?

I've flicked smokes at petrol-soaked wood before, trying to start a fire in a cool way.

Doesn't work at all, we tried for ages!

Sounds like a scene from "Shameless". You'd laugh if Frank Gallagher did it. ;)
