Hi folks, as the title sugests I need some help deciding which bike might be the best option for a beginner to the road biking. Just looking for a way to keep in shape and an alternative to running and take in some of the countryside :)

I have been doing a bit of looking through different sites and most people recommend getting a good second hand bike is probably the best option in terms of bang for your buck but I will be taking advantage of the C2W scheme and can only buy new.

So was looking around the €800 mark or so and think I have narrowed it down to the following few and was wondering if people have first hand experience of these or can give a good two pence worth of advice.

    1. Trek 1.2
    2. Boardman Comp
    3. Giant defy 4
    4. Felt Team F95

I wont claim to know anything in terms of which gearset is the best and i've so many people going over the Sora vs Tiagra amongst others...I've went and looked at a few and can't really see what the big problem is with the Sora, I guess it will be whatever I get used too. As i mentioned purely for leisure purposes and Halfords been my dedicated source for the bike and after speaking to them they told me they can source any of the above mind you I've got no exact price yet

    All comments welcome!!

If you are buying in Halfords anyway no question go for the Boardman, it is the best value and a better bike than the others. The only reason people don't go for it is Halfords' questionable build and after-sales.

Tiagra is easier to shift from the drops. You will appreciate it going forward. The Boardman also seems to have 105 derailleurs, it is an all around big upgrade on the others.
