100% not a problem in the EU, all you need is a valid passport. If you were going to USA that is another thing. In EU as long as its indate you can travel anway.

No problem as Malta is in the EU. As said, you can travel right up to expiry.

Why don't you just get it renewed now anyhow!
Whatever is left to run on your present passport will be added to your new one!

But if the OP is not planning on going away again until next year then it would be best not to renew it until just before that next trip. A bit like the way you don't renew your yearly travel insurance when the year is finished, instead waiting until just before your next trip.

(Unless he has some inside information that the price of a passport is going to dramatically increase in the meantime).

    If I had I wouldn't tell you ;)

The fact is if the poster gets his passport now, he/she has it for the next 10 and a bit years, and you never know when an unforseen trip can pop up.He/She is still going to have to get it next year!!!

Once you get the new passport back it is valid, even if the old one still had time to run.
