Have the Wired R1 version myself will play anything thrown at it, very happy with it myself.

Don't know if there are any other wireless units in the same price range as it, I think the WD-Live is wired like the R1.

The WD-TV Live is WI-Fi ready and can be made wirless with the use of an adapter
I have the ordinary WD-TV and its a breeze to use, and plays practically anything.

Thanks guys. Looked up the R1 - non wireless version:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-1080p-HDP-R1-Internet-Streamer/dp/B002OQPBVQ/ref=sr_ob_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1268736642&sr=1-2

    It's quite a lot cheaper - It's about 88€ where as the wireless R3 is €132 approx = €44 saving.

Is it worth 50% extra (from €88 to €132) just for built in wireless?

I have a crappy Eircom connection with 3meg bb, which keeps dropping all the time. Might go for the playability for now and wireless in a year or so's time when feckin BB is better.

    Whatya think?

I happen to be lucky in that my internet is NTL cable so I have the R1 plugged into my wireless router, as it is situated right behind the telly. If this is an option for you then I think the saving is worth it.

Alternatively if you have a wifi router that is some distance it may be possible in the future to add a 20 Euro wireless access point in bridge mode in order to enable wifi connectivity. Not sure if this is supported on the R1 but I can't see why not in theory.

Are you going to playing a lot of media directly from the net? If your BB connection keeps dropping then it won't matter whether you have the wifi or the wired version. Having said that if your connection improves then you may as well have the wireless version ready to go.
