Moderation in the Green Issues forum

I've been a reader of and contributor to the Green Issues forum for a while now.

In my view, the forum moderators Taconnol and Djpbarry are biased, excessively controlling, and unnecessarily aggressive and peremptory in their moderation to the point of being downright rude.

The latest example is in this thread, where one poster makes the statement that "There are those who consider the green movement as trying to impose socialism by another means." and goes on to give examples of what he or she means.

The moderator Taconnol dismisses the poster's arguments and when an attempt is made to develop them, she closes down the avenue of discussion by declaring it to be off-topic, aggressively describing the posts to be "tangential rants" and declaring that any dissent from her view will be regarded as a breach of the forum charter's ban on in-thread discussion of moderation.

This, as I say, is just the latest in a pattern of what I see as heavy-handed, biased and unnecessarily confrontational moderation. I believe the moderators should be prevailed on to put their personal political and environmental views to one side and stop closing down discussions because they disagree with views expressed by other posters. When they do see the need to intervene, they should also stop taking such an aggressive and peremptory tone.

We now have in this thread, on green politics, a warning from the moderator to a poster not to criticise the Green Party:

CJHaughey, this thread is not to descend into Green Party-bashing. There are plenty of threads on that topic in the Politics Forum.

    How biased is that?

This post also highlights another problem with the moderation of this forum - the moderator is in the habit of combining her contributions to discussions with her moderation of the forum in the same posts. There should be a clearer distinction between the two and they should not be combined within the same posts. As it is, a reasonable and objective reader could conclude this moderator is using her role to censor views with which she disagrees.

    Hi,

could I ask that you contact the CMods first and run it by them as they would be more familiar with the workings of the forum.

If you are not satisfied with that response, you can take it back here for Admin review.
