I am looking at a 01 2.0 D4D Toyota Avensis going pretty cheap.

The only this is that it does not have any gearbox?

Also this car has not been driven in 2 years.

    A) Would it cost a lot to find a 2nd hand or new Gearbox & would it be much hastle fitting it.

    B) Is it bad the fact it has not been driven in 2 years, or does this not make any difference if it got the full service, check up. Im a little afraid that it might not have been the best for the Engine?

It would need to be practically free IMO to be worth bothering with.

I think the fact it doesnt have a gearbox is bad enough. Why exactly has it no gearbox? And yes a car sitting idle for too years is bound to have some things seized by now.

The reason the car has no gearbox is because the 5th gear stopped working & the guy was too lazy to change it, so left it idle & just drove the wifes new Jeep...

The person is a friend of a friend. The car has over 120mls up on it also.

What would be a reasonable price & also is it really a no go?

I have still not seeing it either?

Have a look on carzone etc & find a fully functioning one for F all.

Remember you would need to be setting aside hundreds for buying & fitting a gearbox from a scrap yard not to mention the strong possibility that alot of other work would be needed to get it up to speed. I certainly wouldnt run an engine that hadnt been started for 2 years without a new timing belt(I assume these engines have a belt), I dont know if its a major job or not on these engines. Full service & very thorough inspection also needed

I paid 2400 for a 01 d4d avensis, back in August, it had 107,000 miles on it.Dual Mass Flywheel goes on these cars as well, had been repaired on the one I bought when I bought it, meant to be costly enough I think, Say timing bell be around 300 anyway
