I knew I went to college for a reason, to draw the dole whilst working at a checkout

That's what the Arts students always aspired to anyways.

You can work for free and still claim the dole.:)

Meh, might as well put my qualifications to good use..................it's not like they're gonna get me a job in what I studied for, anyways!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,783 ✭✭✭Hank_Jones

How can that even be possible?

Work for 9 months for free....

    O...K....

A cavan employer, you'd never guess eh? What could have been a good scheme is being ruined by the chancers looking for free labour for their business . The "Work experience" offered by such jobs is virtually worthless. I'd rather emigrate to uk to do the same job for a paid wage then give the stingy pr1ck of an owner my labour for free.

PS, when i was 16 ten years ago i did that exact same job in a small shop in Dublin , didnt even need a leaving cert to do it and this fecker is looking for a graduate!

I used to work in SuperValu in Monaghan when I was 15.. Hard to believe this is considered unpaid work experience now.

Bit foolish looking for a graduate really, couldnt imagine having a more miserable dissatisfied worker

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 260 ✭✭ilovebiology

Thats unbelievable, wanting someone to work for nothing. The employer must be as tight as a ducks ar*e :p

Yeah but he is already chancing his arm offering people unpaid jobs there.
Why not just go the full hog and try and get someone with a college degree.
It's not as if anyone is going to be happy working there for nothing.

Don't knock an arts degree. I remember wanting to have one one badly back when I started college. Unfortunately the toilet roll despenser had run out that day and I had to wipe my bum with a blank page from a copybook. :(

Words sometimes fail me. If there ever was an employer taking advantage of a bad situation here it is. What graduate in their right mind would do a minimum wage job, for less than the minimum wage, gaining no experience what so ever, and requiring no skill what so ever.

That shop should not be allowed to participate in the programme. Free labour, thats all it is.

Law degree is the new arts degree.
So d1ckhead here went and got two useless degrees
I'll be happy to get into Dunnes now :D

This is an absolute disgrace and clear abuse of the wpp system. They should be reported. In fact the entire wpp system should be scrapped. It's being widely abused. I would urge anyone on the dole considering it think beyond your own personal situation and really think about what it's doing to the industry you work in.

I agree completely. I would nearly call up the employer, enquire about the job etc, and then tell him to f*ck off and not have people working for nothing. Some people think they can get away with anything

That sort of thing would just encourage people to stay on the dole and do nothing.

In France the shop would be burned to the ground, in most democracies it would be boycotted, here it makes the pages of a state agency as a job!!! Wonder when ff will introduce the free economic zones?

Hopefully they will wait until I set up a company and get it off the ground first. :D

Then put my base right at the centre. ;)

We'll all apply for the job, then we'll all get interviewed, and the one finally selected can tell them to shove the feckin job right up their hole - the bastards!

I think they got the message, as the unpaid "job" listing seems to be taken down.
    Power to the mob people.

Sod all that... I'm the poor misguided muppet who in my hay day off my 20'ts spent 2 years doing work experience gigs... and they promptly became an alki.:o
Although I do admit to having a bit off fun in-between. ;)

Perhaps if we scream enough of the same abuse at them, they'll put 400,000 paying jobs up on the site.

The Fas website is so great that it has buckled under the pressure of 20 people trying to view it a the same time.

I was just on the fas site.

The first 6 jobs I clicked on were unpaid....

Why would anyone in their right mind work for nothing?

It's a strange coincidence that they're going to close down a lot of mental health facilities around the country.
