    Hey lads,

I've got an old hybrid that I use for commuting(I cycle pretty much everywhere I go) and a little for exercise. Right now its got a piece of shít set of handlebars on it that are rusting and are completely the wrong shape:rolleyes: So, a while back I went on CRC and ordered some bits, but didnt really think it through. In my naivety I failed to realise that there are different sizes for handlebar centres. Needless to say the new drops don't fit. The oldschool style stem is a 1" but the bars are 1"1/4 (~28 and 32mm).

Another screw up was ordering brake levers with no gear shifters, *facepalm.

    So, what I need is:
    1. A way to mount a 1"1/4 bar into an old expansion bolt fork, CRC have 1"ers but thats no good.
    2. Road brake levers and shifters for a Shimano 21 speed setup.

Emphasis: Price; this is just to keep me going until the summer when, all going to plan, I'll be buying a proper road bike.

    Thanks,
    Lethal.

A Quill Aheadset Adapter will convert you to a modern system and then you can get whatever stem/bar combo you need.

Most modern road bars in the last few years are 31.8mm but 26mm is a recent common standard; loads of bars available in 26mm, and indeed they are often discounted.

25.4mm (1 in) is normal for MTB handlebars.

As far as I know 25.4 and 26mm are too far away from each other for it to work.

It would appear there are a few 25.4mm drops available but it would not be common. I get the impression that it was more common previously, particularly in America.

Thats perfect. CRC is really slow all day though....

I have the drops already, CRC dont seem to have them anymore, but they are the FSA RD330, cheap as chips stuff will do me fine. Got the tape and ends two.

    Almost identical set:

We have several stems outside in the garage but the only one that would fit it is in use on my brothers bike:rolleyes: This will fit the adaptor right? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=47961

So, the last thing on the list is the brakes/shifters, I'm going to have a browse now, very slowly :(

21 speed sounds like it's a 7 speed cassette. Not sure if STI levers for 7 speed exist or not, and even if they do I would imagine they are hard to come by. I might be wrong though.

Edit : looks like I am wrong

I'm thinking grab one of them and forget the front three, remove the whole assembly. I never, literally never, bother using the lower two on the front ring.
    Sounds like plan:)

Turns out that stem is discontinued in the size I need :p

    Edit: Lots of discontinued stems:rolleyes:
