Anyone going this year, assuming you've already pre-booked and that no one will be allowed in otherwise?

ive been several times and never pre-booked. Where did you get that info from?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,568 ✭✭✭Blue850

Irish Vintage Scene magazine has details and if you've been prebooking previously, entry forms are posted out...

The entry form I got in the post says

Free entry for pre-70 vehicles for driver and one passenger
€5 per person in post 1970 vehicles, children under 14 free
    €7 admission for general public
Exhibitors must be on site by 12.30
Entries must be returned by April 6th with entry fee if applicable and copy of insurance!
A pass will be sent out on receipt of entry which is needed to enter show
No free meals for exhibitors this year

and the bypass won't be ready....

it will probably ne a lot smaller than last year....but sounds the exact same with no need to pre-book.

I think I'll give it a skip this year so,2 hours trying to get out last year:mad:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 551 ✭✭✭trevorbrady

this isn't far from me so it would be a shame not to go but I don't fancy the queue to get out like last year. I might go in the daily and park in the village then cycle out to the show! At least I'll be able to leave when I want to! If the bypass was sorted I'd bring something along to park in the field...

How come last year was a disaster for traffic, and previous years dont seem to have been?
They say you have to pre book, but if you turn up on the day with a classic and havnt will they turn you away/send you to the normal carpark,as im sure a lot of people wont have heard of prebooking?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 551 ✭✭✭trevorbrady

last year was bad because it was massively over-attended and everyone all wanted to leave at around the same time through one exit point although they opened a second exit point soon afterwards. The road past the field is quite busy (main Cork-Dublin artery) and it was hard for cars to turn right onto the road, to head North.

I arrived late in my bug and was ushered towards the visitors carpark, the show area was chocka block. Luckily I got out a bit early and it only (!) took half an hour to get to the road. Others weren't so lucky.

I was last out of the field last year, after the car's gear linkage self destucted while queuing, it was a bad omen when it fouled its plugs in the queue on the way in....
    everday car this year;)

btw anyone going to the show at the Tipperary racecourse in Limerick Junction on Easter Sunday, great turnout last year

I really couldnt see myself going to this show again.
It was 8:20pm before I got off the show field last year.

A friend of mine from Cork was in the que from 3:30 until 7:20 before they got it.

Its very unfortunate, but this show has become a victim of its own success. I have attended it for years and was a lovely show when it was in the castle but it was just growing and growing every year.

I'll probably go to the Limerick Junction show, its Porsche themed this year so thats what I'll bring!

This was pretty much full to capacity last year too,i think many more people turned up than anticipated,it was very good for a first show though. I hope they have a good layout this year.

i remember seeing your 127 sport & someone lying under it, if i was paid to go to that farce for a show i would not go no way the worst organised show ever!!

When the new bypass opens this will be a great show.Until then i will give it a miss. The stress from last year trying to get out is still fresh in my mind.
Could not face it again. The organisers have developed a great show but must sort out the exit

According to the official ad "ALL ENTRIES MUST PRE-BOOK"

It's a recipe for mayhem if daytrippers are turned away.

hmmm...i think I'll give it a miss then...sounds to me as if they are blaming last years entrants for all their troubles last year. (Oh and I'll only provide a copy of my insurance if every car in the public car park has to do the same or to AGS if requested

After spending over 3 and a half hours trying to get out of the place last year and telling me this year that I'm not allowed to leave before 4.30, they won't see me at this show! Not a hope in hell!

ha ha i wont be going again , i dont blame the site for last year i blame the terrible marshalls ...i personally seen them threaten people , i am a quailified security instructor and had to get out off my jag { the one that ended up cleaning out a fence ,ops}and getting the marshall to slow down a bit before he did something he would regret{and not to me either} i got so sick to death off there useless planning i gave up , and lost my temper but not with them , toke it out on a fence instead .... automatic and 5.3 V12 dont go well together lol ... think that section about damage to fences so on is for me .... but its ok wont be going again , the day was great just marshalls the problem....

I dont have a problem with the pre-booking ( but why pre 1970 free?) as it allows the organisers to..........organise !

Having being involved to a degree with shows in the past they can only do their best to calculate numbers and ensure the capacity is catered for, but if the sun comes out the numbers could easily double.

Do us all a favour and pre-book if you intend to go. Persoanlly I wont be..........but thats another story.

Looks like it will be a nice quiet show with no problems getting out this year!;):p

After last years disaster I will defiantly be giving this show a wide berth this year! I don't think I ever saw so many cars queuing to get out through one gate!

It should be a weekend event anyway if it's as big as they're making it out to be, start setting it up on Friday for stall holders and traders and the rest of the weekend to get in and out!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 551 ✭✭✭trevorbrady

weekend events should have a large indoor element IMO. If it pissed rain all weekend (I know, unlikely in this country) the whole event would be a washout. With an indoor show then something could be salvaged from the weekend...

also according that offical poster its only pre 1970 cars, perhaps they are doing this to put people off and curtail the numbers some what.
I was planing to go, but im thinking of not going now, espically after reading about last year on this thread.

Not after last year - thanks to the lobotomised gimps in the yellow jackets I was directed to a dead end with no parking spaces, then eventually into an empty field where another moron beckoned us through into the exit lane!! Never got out of the car, never saw any cars except the ones in front and behind trying to park!! Life is too short to waste it stuck in a chaotic car park....

I bought my Reliant Scimitar GTE about a month ago and i'd like to go to some show with him, but as i can see Durrow show isn´t the best choice. F that.

As the OP, I agree with Corktina. My original post was to do with the 2009 event and shouldn't be used to judge how the 2010 turned out or what the 2011 event will be like. Durrow is bypassed, Austin Ryan apologised in IVS, and hopefully lessons have been learned.

This thread is now archive material.
