painting alliminium

    hey i have a specialized langster with crabon forks and alliminium frame and was wondering how i wud strip off the original paint job?

    You can use paint stripper

    But only on the aluminium. You'd need to remove the fork before doing and paint stripping

    Aluminum is the yankie for Aluminium. :)

    For painting aluminium you will need an etch primer, if not the paint will flake off as the aluminum oxidizes.

    Depending what you want you could get it anodised by a specialist,

    Years ago there was a craze for Shimano black Dura_ace anodised products.

    There is a crowd in Shannon Industrial Estate that anodizes industrial products, I'm sure if you approach them with a few bits and bobs they would do it for cash.

    Yes it does oxidise, if you ever see heavily oxidised aluminium it will have white splotches all over it. A thin layer of alumina forms almost instantly on bare aluminium.

    Will aluminium rust, (yes i know it's not rust) these guys seem to think that it's not much of an issue so long as you look after your bike. So it seems like this is a non-issue
