I would imagine Sky has the first run contract. Would be surprised if it wasn't shown until later (possibly next year). How reliable is wikipedia?

Well weren't RTE the first to show Band Of Brothers, so it is possible.

However shows like these deserve to be in HD.

Not to the extent that it blocks non premium movie channel subscribers from seeing it. Putting a series like this on Sky Movies is a very dirty tactic by Sky.

HD is great and all that but it isn't the be all and end all of television.

Well in all fairness to Sky its on HBO in the US which is a pay channel, and pretty much the reason a series as expensive as that even gets made

What has it being on HBO got to do with this? Should Sex and the City have been on Sky Movies also. Maybe Entourage?

Point is its on a premium pay channel in the US, why should it not be on a premium pay channel here?

It is not a movie, it is a mini series. That is why I believe it shouldn't be on Sky Movies.

Sky are showing it too late anyway. I will be watching it tomorrow.

Back to the point...are RTE showing this this year???

There's no reference on that Wikipedia article, anyone could have put that in.

Not sure about RTE's plans. Ive seen it allready and it is half decent. Its in between band of brothers and Saving private ryan.

You'd think these broadcasters would have some cop on and show it at the same time (Allowing for time differences) around the world. It would cut down on piracy big time.

To let you know, Sky 3 are showing only episodes 1 and 2 as part of a pay tv preview weekend type thing.

To watch the rest of the episodes on a Sky channel you will need Sky Movies.

Monday's at 9, and each day for the following week at various times on Premier.
Episode 3 is currently showing on Premiere, Episodes 1 and 2 to be shown on Sky 3's free pass weekend, Episode 4 from next Monday (19th).

I'm really enjoying it. I thought at first they were over doing the "American Heroes" aspect, even with the music. But after seeing a few war scenes and getting a very realistic glimpse of what they went through you realise they deserve to be called heroes. The film work is worthy of movie status even though its a mini series. I'd recommend watching this in HD and full 5.1 surround sound and maybe apologies to the neighbours in advance - spectacular stuff.

I dunno I think it hasn't got a patch on BoB. The story is very stagnant I think and lacks direction. With BoB you kind of felt you were following them on a journey. Each episode in this feels very disconnected to the previous ones.

It is still very enjoyable to watch and is visually spectacular.

im curently downloading up to epsode six, so hopefully its good! when some thing costs a 100 mill ya have to show it on pay tv to make your money back! but the down side is most people dont have sky movies and just do what i do! :)

You should try and not compare it to BoB. Different warzone and all that. If you do that you might actually enjoy it a bit more.

Well I’m not comparing them from that standpoint I’m comparing it from a production standpoint, writing/direction/visual style.

I just have no relationship to the characters which is one of my main gripes.

I think it has alot to do with the fact this is based off memoirs and BoB was based off the account collected by Ambrose which means he most likely had developed those character relationships in a style which the viewer can become part of.

I understand the Pacfic campaign was a whole different game and it was much more or a war of attrition and will power in terrible conditions and with terrible equipment but the way the story is being told doesn’t make me feel that.

It is still an excellent series and on a factor of 100's better then the rest of the rubbish that makes it onto the tv.

I actually like the way you don't have time to get to know the characters in depth. It's a real life account and in reality the soldiers may befriend someone for a week before they are killed, injured, shipped out somewhere else or the lucky ones get to go home. I took that as a nice touch, rather than a lack of story telling skills.
