What is the story with the Passport office?

My husband has run out of pages in his passport and needs to get a new one for an urgent business trip that requires a full page visa in his passport.
He's based in the Middle East, so the a new appliction takes 4-6weeks from there, and that was without the current industrial action!
Ive tried to ring the passport office all day yesterday and cant get through, engaged tone all day!!
Ive emailed them and heard nothing back.

He needs to know if he flys home and goes to the passport office in person, will they issue him with a passport?!
He will obviously have evidence of flight for an emergency passport, as he will be flying back out the next day, but are they even issuing emergency passports to anyone at the moment?!

They are an absolute disgrace, the least they can do is put a message on the phone telling people whats what!.

Work to rule my backside!!! Shouldnt that involve actually working??:mad:

They are a shower of ungrateful lazy good for nothings, who should be glad to have a job!

And before anyone starts jumping down my throat, i AM a civil servant(albeit just finished a career break waiting to be placed back in my department), so ive seen first hand how lazy these people are! (myself not included :D )
The worst offenders are people who have never worked anywhere other than the service, straight into it from school, they wont lift a pen unless the union says so!
they need a reality check, and some time spent in the real world actually working for a living, maybe then they would realise what a cushy number they have, and actually DO their job!!

Ok rant over, can anyone shed some light on my dilemma, thanks. ;)

Please rant elsewhere. There are already plenty of threads about emergency passports, including an informative one opened today.
