Looking to buy a laptop

Want to buy a laptop for around the 500 euro mark, does anyone have any recommendations? Are they cheaper to buy online over amazon or am I better off going into a computer shop?

My nephew got a Latitude e5500 and a week later the cd rom doesnt work.

Consider www.lenovo.ie Excellent laptops.

It's reduced from 1210e to 570e, which is basically half price. Seems like a bargain or am I missing something?

BMS.ie have some decent deals on toshiba laptops and i've always found them very helpful........

Note that it does not have CD/DVD drive.

It's a nice looking laptop, has had mixed reviews. Look em up.

I'd personally go for the more powerful option of the U350.

Hi everyone.

I'm also looking to buy a laptop. I want to be able to play games on it but I don't really need it to be able to play the latest Call of Duty or whatever at the highest resolution. The main game I need to be able to run is iracing (iracing.com/membership/system-requirements/). Once again, not necessarily at the highest res or anything but respectable enough (multiplayer etc).

Once upon a time, I was completely up-to-date with computer technology. That was over 12 years ago. Obviously, a lot has happened since then and I'm completely out of touch.

One other small snag. I boycott Intel so it needs to be an AMD laptop. I know I'm shooting myself and all but it's something I've got to do.

I saw the Aspire 5542G on komplett.ie. Seems decent enough but someone on here mentioned that you should stay away from Acer because of bad build quality. Any more on this? Is that the general feeling here?

If not the Acer then would anyone here recommend something else?

I took a look at dabs but there are just no product details which isn't very nice.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

some of the toshibas have amd proccessors ... i think the L450 models at bms and the some of the hp have amd turion proccessors at laptops direct......

The 13 inch version would have great battery life, and the SU9400 is no slouch, It could play browser based games like iracing easily. I know it's a high price, but the build quality rivals macbooks and after my last experience with Dell, I'd advise against cheap built laptops.
EDIT: Looks like the Envy 13 now comes with an SL9300 processor, not the SU9400. http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/07/hp-updates-envy-13-and-envy-15-laptops-lowers-prices-significan/
I'm not up to date on the SL range so I'll end my speculation here.
