Ok this is my story ...i went blonde for the first time about two months ago

I actually liked the first result ...although it tended to look green in some lights ...and or a sort of brassy red colour

I went to the hairdresser again to get my roots done and asked simply for the same ..just do the roots

Well it did not come out the same at all...

Plus my roots for some reason look WORSE ...it is i think the build up of colour

Also she never seems to get down to the roots well

And i have noticed on one side of my head there is a black dot!

EVERY HAIRDRESSOR KNOWS AND DREADS THE BLACK DOT IN DYE JOBS

I used to work in a hairdressor for a while

    so i know a little ..

Also she never really explains well what it is going to look like or shows me a picture

Its almost as if she does not know how it is going to turn out!

And when i show her a picture of what i want ...she seems puzzled..and never really listens..

She agreed to alter it for free ..in a few days if i am still unhappy ...

But do i want someone who did it wrong the first time to do it again??

    So i want options

    I am LOOKING FOR

    A HAIRDRESSER

    Good at blonde highlighting

Can get down to the roots

Good communication skills and explaining things and giving you an idea of what it will look like

Does not mind you bringing a picture..

And LISTENS...and takes time to listen ( she just wants to get started)

And has good skills ...ie the colour will not leak and i will not be left with a green tinge or a black dot

Who have you been wowed with or happy with

By the way this hairdresser i have heard others mention similar things ...expect in other branches

So really unhappy at the moment

Any recommendation for a really great highlighting hairdresser?

I dont want my hair to look a bad bleach job..

And by the way it is long:-)

Thank you all very much for any replies or recommendations..

And please share any other tips you have:-)

Where are you based first of all?
i just had the green problem, it seems my highlights somehow react with our power shower. I feel your pain.
Is it a large salon you go to? If it is, insist that they remedy it but you get a more senior stylist and that if the results still aren't satisfactory you will attend another salon and they will pay for it. If it's a chain, threaten to contact head office about their incompetence

Thank you very much for your advice..
I am based in Dublin ...southside
    I can travel within Dublin

Yes i notice my hair seems to change everytime i wash it ..is that normal for blonde hair? Also any shampoo i use has to be white or clear..or my hair takes the tint ..ie blue shampoo gives a slight blue tinge etc weird!

The salon is not really that big....they have a few other stylists ..not certain who would be more senior. But i have a feeling the person who did it is considered 'good' there..So i may ask to be consulted with a more senior person there...as you suggest ..but i dont know that they are any good
Or i may just ask for my money back i dont know.

I was also thinking of at least consulting with another salon just to see what they see.

I was looking for the head office number on their website ..but i can only seem to find salons ..

I would rather go to someone i know is good at what they do though ..or at least has a good reputation.

If you are willing to pay a bit extra I found Essensuals on South William Street brilliant when I went blonde, they did a fabulous colour as mine had been a home dye job to begin with and I was fairly ginger looking :o but he listened to what I wanted and talked through everything with me and it looked great. Staff are really nice and helpful too, Ive been getting my hair cut their for years, always looks great and lasts ages. :) hth

    wow thank you

    How much were they roughly?

I am thinking of going back to my original colour at this stage not sure.

I cant seem to find a price list there.

Any decent hairdresser should be able to listen to what your trying to tell them! And they should also be able to get to the roots in this day and age!

I wouldnt even bother going back to let her near me!

Its correct term would be patchiness - where someone has missed a piece - when theres a blonde blob its called seepage :D

    My thoughts too ...

Erm the black black dot ...

Well if the colour is not applied evenly within one foil neatly ...it does not reach some parts of the hair ...you can be left with different tones ...

Or a black mark....most often it is near the root ...and it may fade a little as it grows or as the colour fades...

Or it can be a sort of black mark..

But she was walking off a lot ..and she left it on much longer then she did the first time ...

    And no toner this time...

I was annoyed she did not even notice the blob of colour that feel on my hair ( a strand not in foil at the tip)

I noticed but only after ages and someone quickly came over and combed it out.

    EXACTLY!!!

It looks very very patchy on one side ...

And there seems to be a little seepage at the front ...

So the colour kind of looks like it has run into bits or something...

    Its weird

And below the ear ..is a different colour
