A pal of mine believes that there is a DC3 in Weston which may have been there for quite a while now. Does anyone know if this is the case, and if so, what the history of this aircraft it, and if / when it will fly again.

It's been there for a few months now, privately owned.

Dont think its owned by Atlantique anymore. Its owner is now listed as a Trustee, and has also been suggested that its going to be a museum piece

I was told the guy's name who owns it but can't remember it - but he's Irish.

Unfortunitally classic excursion flights are banned from these aircraft thanks to EU directives.

Its now South America or New Zealand if you want a spin.

Or the USA. I was lucky enough to get a ride in a piston DC-3 last week thanks to a Missionary Flights International open day! $20 dollar donation. A bargain! :D

Yep, it's Christy Keane, another one for his museum. So far a Catalina/Canso, Buccaneer and now DC3. It would be great if the museum could get up and running particularly in Weston. The reason he's not listed as an owner is because a non US citizen cannot own an N registered aircraft. I would also say that the fact it's N registered implies it may be intended to fly it again. Otherwise why bother re-registering it?

You don't have to be a US citizen to own a US registered aircraft. There are lots of N reg aircraft based in the UK. Many people prefer to keep their aircraft on a N reg due to less regulations.

I heard that the owner of the DC-3 is trying to get a qualified engineer who can sign off on N reg aircraft. Once he can do this the aircraft will be airworthy.

No you are wrong. Non US citizens cannot own an American registered aircraft. You can either get a US citizen to 'own' the aircraft for you or set up a trust. This web page explains it well.

You can be the effective 'beneficial owner' but you literally cannot own it outright.

This link gives some info and a pic.... http://www.catalina.org.uk/catalina-latest-news/world-catalina-news-may-2006-a14.html
It may be from 2006 but I think the cat is still in the same condition now unfortunately ...

The Catalina is just about visible on Goggle earth @ 53°20'59.30"N 6°29'31.31"W and yes it doesnt seem to be in much better condition that when it arrived.

Still cant find the DC-3 ! Is it possible to visit these aircraft where there are located at present?

If you drive up the private road to Weston, you get a good view of the Bucaneer on your left. It's parked just inside the fence. If you continue up to the car park, you get very close to the DC3.

I'm not sure where the Catalina is and don't think I've noticed it at Weston.

Thanks for that, must take a look the next time I am in the area. I could only just about see the Catalina on Google earth, stuck in behind the "old" terminal building?

    Found a photo here;

I had a good look around the Catalina at Weston several times, it's a bit of a basket case and the longer it sits out in the Irish weather the quicker it will deteriorate. Pity really. The way things are at the moment the chances of a museum getting going are not good. Even if there was the money for it. The attitude of the local councils to anything happening in Weston is actively hostile.

Although I'm sad to see it go - it's surely better than seeing it rotting away for another few years in our damp climate.
Anyway the DC-3 was designed for flying - here's one I saw yesterday ;)

I was out in the back garden this morning at around 11.00am (in Killiney) when I heard a DC 3 coming from a long way off so guess it was this one. It was great to see one in the air. The last one I saw was in Stockholm about 2 years ago
