Free legal aid

    hey all just curious to know the entitlements to free legal aid and how i go about getting it. I have to be in court in april and am on social welfare just wondering if anyone could help me or point me in the right direction.

    if its a criminal matter your solicitor asks the judge in court. If your on social you have a good chance unless the crime is drugs related or you arrive to court in a bmw.

    its nothing to do with drugs its just stupid car offences main one being driving without full licence driver . no bmw lol have ford sierra :D

    Some Judges feel if you can afford a car you can afford a solicitor. You generally get free legal aid if you are at risk of imprisonment so I wouldn't hold your breath.

    you won't get legal aid for minor driving offences. Usually only for offences where you are in jeopardy

    i dont think thats fair though i got my car when i was working and put every bit of money i have into it . Any idea how much a solicitor will cost around if ye could give me a general bracket

    your looking at about €500 for a brief!
    Why not just go yourself..... I'm sure he'll only give you a fine for about €250
    so why pay a Solicitor....

    Some judges put up the fine when the Defendant is unrepresented. No saving there. Depending on the part of the country a solicitor might come a bit cheaper. If it is a guilty plea on day one a legal aid solicitor might be willing to do it for a more reasonable sum.
