Has anyone tried moving bales with a MF35X? Is it powerful enough to lift a round bale??

yes it will do the job so will a 20 or even a 135, you might need to split the brakes to steer, and try to get the bale as close to the back of the tractor as possible, this will make it easier lifted.

    have fun:D

will lift either bale or front wheels , make sure diesel tank and rad are full :D for ballast , if its hay or haylage no bother , silage could be hassle

It will lift a bale of silage alright but as soon as you start to let the clutch out you'll be gazing at the sky! I saw an aul fella stacking bales on their end last year off the wrapper with a 135, he had his brother sitting on the bonnet for ballast! If you're planning on doing it regularly I'd start looking out for something a bit bigger, a 165 or a 4000.

has filling tyres with water to add traction/ballast gone out of fashion

ya a bag of sand on the bonnet, or 2 cavity blocks tied with rope hangingb across the lights, i wouldnt jump into buying a bigger tractor just to lift bales, my grandfather bought a new 135 in 73 and it done the bales in the 80s and 90s ,all the stacking, now its in the yard and even though we have bigger tractors it still lifts bales into sheds because its more manoverable, and easly gets in andout of the shed.

Thanks for the responses. Sorry I had forgotten to specify it was silage bales I want to move. I think as CasinoKing said I might be looking at the sky with it. I pulled out a bale one day with a rope attached from the 35X to the bale and that was a struugle for her. Think I might have to look for an alternative machine.... Time for a new thread!

It'll struggle if it's any ways hilly, high ho silver :D remember my Dad doing it years ago. He too used sandbags on the front.
