They were all ready to go as early as last month .... but then that head-shop on capel st exploded .... making the images out of date.

So they have to go round and photograph everything all over again just in case. :(

That's all well and good, but when you look out the window, are the faces and car registrations blurred out? I think not.

I convinced myself that it would be launched on St Patrick's Day (for no reason other than the fact that it seems like the kind of thing Google would do), but a recent article in the Tribune claims that it'll be 2011 before we see it.

Street View's amazing, coincidentally, we were on it today in DT; searching for everyone's houses.. yeah, a bit pointless but ahh well.

Searched one girls' house, this came up.. God she was embarrassed

Nah I don't think they said it'd be that long. I thought they said around 6 - 8 months. I believe they started the day after Paddy's day last year... so it's just coming up to a year now.

Edit - Actually, I just looked up Google's addition for the UK which they released yesterday I believe - it really does cover pretty much everywhere!! That is the kind of coverage they were planning to give Ireland - they said they they wanted to cover every single tarmac road. However, they did start taking the pictures of the UK about 2 years ago - and had a release of the major cities about a year ago.

However, this shows that the tribune article was seriously wrong. They claimed that Google wasn't coming out with any more releases because of the recent EU decision - however their latest UK release came out today or yesterday.

The EU decision is pretty stupid if you ask me. Who gives a toss what a street looked like now or a year ago!

Yeah, Considering the orwellian number of cctv's in europe, its strange they'd give a toss whether someone takes a few pics of their street, even if they are out in rollers bringing in the milk.

Now that I think of it, I think St. Patrick's day might be a good day to look out for, in terms of a Google Street View release. They usually make several releases together - and after having a big release for the UK yesterday, it may be a sign! (Actually, if you look back... the day the week the UK's first street view pictures wer released was the same week Google started taking pictures here). Also, you're right when you say that it would be a thing Google would do. After all, the day they started taking pictures was the week of St Patricks day last year.

And anyway as I said, that Tribune article (if we're talking about the same one) was just BS

Has anybody noticed on Google Earth that Dublin is almost completely modeled in 3D. Kind of poor mans street view.
