Broken Dell laptop hinges

Hello! Hopefully someone can help me with this and save me the €600 I'd need to get a new laptop.

The hinges on my Dell Inspiron 1525 seem to be well and truly banjaxed. A few weeks ago I started hearing a cracking sound whenever I opened my screen and the screen seemed very unsturdy. I took off the hinge cover and found that the screws near the hinge cover were really loose and one had even popped out. So, I tightened the screws and my screen was fine again...until today.

I opened my laptop and the right hand side of the screen almost completely detached itself from the keyboard! I took apart the laptop again and it looks like the screws that attach the screen to the keyboard have completely popped out, taking some of the plastic from the outermost casing with them. This means that if I try to put the screws back in, they won't fit anymore because the places they once slotted into are pretty much ripped apart. So now there is nothing to support my laptop screen.

I apologize if that's hard to understand but hopefully you get the gist. Does anyone have any advice? Could I buy a new outer casing so the screws would have somewhere to slot into?

Try doing a search on Ebay, you often get someone scrapping a similar model and might have the part you need.

I take it from your post that the plastic treads have pulled, as long as the holes are still there and have not been damaged/broken you could fill the holes with a chemical filler so it drys rock hard

once the filler has harden you can drill some small 2-3 mm pilot holes to take the orginal screws. make sure the pilot holes are smaller than the screws. this should work as i have used these method in the past on various differant repairs from plastic, plaster, wood, and it has worked on them

    Hope this is of help

I actually tried this yesterday and it worked! Granted, my laptop kind of looks like a Frankenstein laptop now with bolts coming out the back but I'm going to file down the screws so they're not as noticeable. Thanks to everyone for their advice!
