Hi, is there a wireless version of the magic eye? I want to get one to use for the tv upstairs but i dont want to be messing with cables and would prefer if there was a wireless option? Anyone know?
    Thanks

Sounds like you want a video sender. However these won't let you change channel and they are prone to interference. I installed a couple of magic eyes in my parent's house a month ago and it was very straightforward but did involve some drilling through walls and running cables in the attic. However they are very happy with the result.

is there much cabling required to do this? Is it only an rf2 cable that I would need or are there more?

If I connected the video sender to the sky box instead of the telly . would that let me change channel?

A lot of them do, however as you correctly pointed out they are prone to interference from other sources.

Without knowing the layout of your house it's impossible to say.
If you are planning on installing one eye then the basic method is -> cable from RF2 on box to -> eye -> television.
If you have internal wiring it could be utilised.
If you want to run 2 or more eyes then you'll need a eye compatible distribution amp.
Some are powered directly from the RF2 on the box, some are mains powered.

Decide what route the cable will run, i.e. if the tv in the sitting room is on the outside wall, this could be drilled through and the cable run up the outside wall vertically and into the bedroom upstairs. Get a tape measure and find out what this distance would be and add an extra couple of metres to give you "wriggle" room when siting the tv. Then buy this amount of cable (rg6 cable will suffice for short runs but I always use tx100 cable as its superior shielding prevents interference to the signal) and connectors and away you go. Easy enough to do if you're handy at DIY. Cable can be bought from any of the vendors listed in the sticky above or in the likes of B & Q in 25 and 50 metre rolls.

ok, thanks all. I am going to try the magic eye solution, and get someone to do the wiring for me. it seems like the better option than the video sender thing. Thanks all.

good call, I had the video senders and they were rubbish, poor picture and interference as the lads say:p
    I bought 2 of these
    http://cgi.ebay.ie/Triax-Sky-TV-Remote-Magic-Eye-Silver-Or-Black_W0QQitemZ330413741500QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_ConEle_SatCableFreeview_RL?hash=item4cee3195bc

    and

    one of these -

the SLX2CF uses the power from the skybox to power 2 magic eyes, I have one in the main bedroom and the other in the kitchen all hardwired. Works very well.
