    A stray thumb tac on my keyboard...closed laptop...cracked screen...nightmare...

Laptop won't boot up now for whatever reason...anyway...the obvious question...all my iPhone apps music and back ups are on that laptop...I have a desktop too but that's not used for the iPhone. What's my next step lads?

Btw...my phone is jailbroken in case that's relevant

The not booting up is strange as it shouldn't be affected by the screen. Have you tried conencting a monitor or even a HD tv should also have the a same connection (see linky) and booting up?

You may be able to transfer purchases from the iphone to a new pc to get the apps back and could use something like tuneaid to get the music back from the iphone/ipod if your laptop is not recoverable.

    Thanks Robbie..

Aye I connected the laptop to the tv and even tried to boot up another pc using the hard drive as a USB device...not booting though.

I just wanted to make sure I could sync the phone with the new computer and not lose anything or have to update

If you sync it you will lose everything, use tuneaid or diskaid to get the music back they are paid for programs but there may be free alternatives out there, do this before syncing the iphone( So connect the iphone and use one of these programs or a free alternative and then sync to create a connection witht he iphone and the itunes on this newer pc).

I think you should be able to transfer the apps by clickign transfer purchases again do this before syncing.

Syncing with a new pc will give you a message saying iphone synced with another itunes/pc and if you click ok or carry on or whatever the ok box is it will wipe your ipod and start from fresh. So dont sync until you have recovered all your music/data

    Thanks mate

    **Update**

    haha..

Ok...I've managed to access my files from the hard drive using a usb jetty (I may have made up that word)

So...what can I do now? Is it just a case of dragging the itunes folder onto my desktop and going from there? Or do I need to download something or do something else...
