(I've done this now for a few years and it's always great fun - it's allowed me to take photos like the above and all of these - and to meet great people and be involved in one of the biggest events in the country :))

St Patrick's Festival are looking for volunteers to help at this year's Parade in Dublin on Wednesday.

They are looking for stewards for the parade route and more. it's to be part of the atmosphere with the opportunity to participate in the performance and management of parade route.

Volunteer opportunities exist like the below:
IRISH SPEAKERS: Please indicate if you are happy to work on Irish language events.

PARADE / PERFORMANCE FACILITATORS: Reporting to relevant supervisor. Working on ‘The Parade’. Please remember the parade route is 2.6km and you may have to assist in carrying floats, flag or banners, so a good level of fitness and endurance is a must.

SITE CREW/ TECHIES / SET UP ASSISTANTS
Audio – Visual technical experience or the physical ability to help prepare the various sites required. I.e. Staging / Barriers/ Signage

    STEWARDS / MARSHALS:
Reporting to the relevant supervisor. Some roaming / some static placement. Working on various events such as; ‘The Parade’, ‘Treasure Hunt’, ‘Big Day Out’ and ‘Ceili Mor’.

    USHERS/HOSPITALITY ASSISTANTS:
Reporting to Hospitality Manger. Assisting staff in ushering patrons to seating areas in venues hosting indoor and outdoor performances.

    Please Note:

Due to the overwhelming response we receive each year it is not always possible to guarantee volunteer placement as times and availability may not adhere.
Please be aware that the festival cannot provide any living, travel or accommodation expenses or documents to volunteers. Volunteers must be over 18.

To apply, just email Kathy at volunteers@stpatricksfestival.ie. Any information you can provide about previous experience and what you can help with would be appreciated.

Again, I'd highly recommend it and might see you on the day! :)

(hope it's OK to add in another volunteer opportunity for people on St Patrick's Day here. )

This St. Patrick’s Day, Suas needs you. We need your time, your energy and your enthusiasm to help us paint the town green and give thousands of children in Kolkata the chance of a quality education.

We are asking for a committment from you to help out for at least one 4 hour shift, during which you will be painting small shamrocks on people's faces (it's very easy and you will have a chance to practise!).

Volunteers are placed in teams and given a briefing before the shift, as well as all materials required. Members of the public do not have to pay anything for the shamrocks, but may donate if they choose. 100% of all donations will be spent on education projects in Kolkata.

    By volunteering your time on the 16th or 17th of March, you’re helping to change lives. All of the money that you raise will go directly to supporting long term education projects in Kolkata such as;

    • Early start programmes and bridging schools like those run by Development Action Society are designed to get 500 children a year into the education system from an early age.
    • Coaching Centres run by Sabuj Sangha are providing over 800 children with after school support so that they will stay in school.
    • Life skills programmes such as Vikramshila’s Education to Employability Project are designed to equip 6,500 children across 10 schools with the skills required for life beyond school.
    • Teacher training, organisational development and infrastructure projects build the capacity of the staff in our Partners so that they can serve more people with greater efficiency.

Over the past six years, Volunteers have raised over €150,000 for Suas Partners in India and Kenya. Last year, your fundraising provided Development Action Society with a new Resource Centre which has meant that they can better serve nearly 2,000 children.

Each volunteer will typically collect enough in a few hours to provide one child in India with an education for an entire YEAR!
