Irish people are already running the country. That's half the problem.

Perhaps we should hand the keys back to the UK and leave a note saying "sorry for the mess".

Didn't a group of people have this idea while the government was "away" at World War 1?

    or Irish

no, i speak it. the only people who hate the irish language are those who failed to grasp it in school.

That's not entirely true. I know people who aced Irish exams in school but hate the language because of the manner it was taught to them.

Didn't a group of people have this idea while the government was "away" at World War 1?

If there hadn't been such a big feckin' queue for independence declaration forms and stamps, they may well have succeeded.

so what you're saying is they hate the manner in which it was taught to them. you can't hate a language, it's a fcuking language ffs.

Well it was so badly taught and beat into them that they have a resentment against speaking it I suppose.

It's not that i failed to grasp it, it's the fact that i had no interest in learning something i had no interest in, and something that was never going to make my life any better/easier

Also, don't think you're anything special for "grasping" Irish, because you're not

I'm inclined to agree about the benifit Irish can have. For me it is used largely as a form of cultural elitism. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a fluent Irish speaker who doesnt understand English, thus there is no practical use for it.

It doesn't even impress girls. Not like riding a flaming motorcycle off the Dail.
