    Which one is best?

I'm thinking of using one of these to repalce McAfee.

Depends on OS and firewall. AVG Free (and possibly the payware version) doesn't seem to support Windows XP since v9.0 and have chronic issues with Zonealarm as well last time I looked. It also seems to require an amazing amount of CPU grunt to work efficiently. I've been a user for years but v9 has made my life hell. Not just mine either - try googling "AVG 9 disabled internet XP" for some unpleasant reading :(

I moved a few pcs from avast to Microsoft security essentials. Fine it very good so far, I would recommend it and it's fully freed, download from the Microsoft site

For the last few years I have been using AVG. I've never really had any problems with it until the last few releases. It has developed into a serious resource hog. In my opinion Avast free version is the best free anti-virus at the moment and the best paid for is Nod32, but its 50euro per year. The plus with Nod is you wont even know its there until it catches something the others may not. Free versions.......Avast all the way

AVG free is useless, it let a fecker of a virus on a machine recently on me. Casued major hassles.
Running AVG (paid for) now with no issues.

I bought avg when i got my computer last year. I renewed it only yesterday for 55 euro. I have windows vista, The neices nephews look at some weird sites it has stopped a bit.

It does not seem to be any slower on vista than the usual. Just on startup.

I've used AVG Free for years on my computers and recommended it to others with no complaint until recently. On older machines with fewer resources (Win XP w/ 512 MB or less) it tends to slow things down a bit. MS Security Essentials (for free) has been good as a replacement as has Avast (also free). Most important - stay out out of bad neighborhoods.
