I hope your look went okay with you?
I joined this in January, immediately after Christmas. It's very hard going, but in a very enjoyable way. You will suffer in your early sessions as they need to guage your fitness. I found after that while the sessions remained tough, they were pushing me just beyond my comfort zone and were achievable - each week you'll find that you can do that bit more before you feel "I can't" - something they don't listen to anyway!!
I'm not into gyms at all and never attended more than a few weeks before giving up - I usually hated them anyway. But this is great, I actually look forward to my training sessions!
I've toned up loads, I've lost quite a bit of weight - which I needed to. I still have a ways to go and will probably do a 2nd 12 week programme once I get to end of this one. There is a whole nutritrion program there as well. It changes every week. It's very protein and fruit oriented. I found it fine for ages, have to admit to struggling a bit now, getting bored with it!! There is a weekly weigh-in and they are very motivational - when you have a less than good week, they look to the positives of the previous week, what you;ve achieved to-date and use that to move you on - it worked for me - and I'm not easily distracted from my love of chocolate!!!!

thanks spur. i was impressed with my looking tour and have decided to sign up for the 12 week session. my assessment is tomorrow afternoon. i am delighted to hear your report as i am feeling very nervous ! i am not at at all fit and am worried i wont manage at all ! i also share your love of chocolate and will need a small bar daily , total junkie. no point in me saying i wont eat it cause i will.. i am keen to get going as i go on hoildays in 12 weeks and would love to see visible results by then.

just wondering if you could tell me roughly how much a 12 week session is please

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,550 ✭✭✭curly from cork

off the top of my head it was 50 for the assessment then about 60 a week for the 1 st month. so it was about 300 for the 1 st month but about 240 after that. those figures are my guesstimate. i did nt keep it up as i picked up a nagging injury, nothing to do with the gym. i m still off exercise but i would recommend K2NY. worth a look around at least.

    Boiing

Apparently the Glanmire gym has been shut by the revenue.

Anyone know are these places separate franchises or are they all owned by the one company?

    The e-mail I received -

Due to economic circumstances beyond our control, personal training and classes at K2NY Kinsale Road will temporarily be suspended and all accounts locked due to The Revenue taking extreme action against our ability to carry out our service to clients. It is our intention to return to trading as soon as possible and to honour any packages paid.

We will do our best for our loyal customers that have stuck with us through thick and thin. Personally speaking, it is the clients that I live for, work hard for. I started K2NY with the goal of helping people reach their potential, whether be it weight loss or motivation. Please give us some time to find our way through these difficult times.

    This is not the end.

Many thanks from all the staff at K2NY Kinsale Road who have been fantastic support to me and to our friends - our clients.

    Pat Reynolds

    [END QUOTE]

Not sure if they are all owned by the same company ...

The email says Kinsale road is closed, no mention of the other locations. I would check with Glanmire before jumping to conclusions.
K2NY did great things for me earlier in the year too! Recommend!! Lets just hope they can keep going!

I presume in my e-mail only Kinsale Road was mentioned because that is where I am signed up to ... but anyway nobody is jumping to conclusions right now, purely speculating, like gimmick has said "apparently" they have been shut ... nothing official yet though.

Hopefully whatever is going on is sorted out for them soon.

I saw the exact same email as you kingtut, but it said GLANMIRE in place of Kinsale Road. So presumably it depends which gym you were tied to.

    Does not look good.

Might have a look on my way home and see if it says anything on the door, I hate to see any business experiencing difficulties :(

Womens Fitness is in the same industrial park as K2NY and I'm joined there - they're already on the ball, leaving message on their Facebook page inviting people to ring them for information on joining the gym or going to their classes:rolleyes:

No way! Out of interest how do you find that gym?

Well they did say they were "sorry to hear that K2NY gym was closing" - sure ye are:rolleyes: It hasn't been actually confirmed yet that they are closed for good though has it??

Yeah Womens Fitness is not too bad. They had a few renovations over the last few months - there are tvs coming from the ceiling now and they have flooring rather than carpet.

I go to the spinning class there on a Wednesday and find it very good.

The only thing I will say is that it is very small and recently they introduced one of those stand up sun bed things - anyway I hadn't been to the gym for a good few weeks (:o) and went back yesterday and got a shock when I went in to the very small changing room - there was the huge sun bed in the changing room!!! Very strange! They just don't have the space for it really, need a bigger premises.

Also, with a lot of the spinning classes you have to bring the bike into the studio yourself and also bring it back out after the class - not good when you are sweating buckets and knackered! (they are usually lined up along the wall in the gym cos other classes are on before or after spinning sometimes and there isn't room in the studio for the bikes!).

God, I'm making it sound awful! It's not that bad, it's cheap like - only 365 for the year and then if you're a member classes are half price (4e instead of 8e)

Thats very reasonable for classes. I think I had a look in there one time (bringing the nephew to smyths) and it did look very cramped and all the equipment close together. I prefer classes then to actually going to the gym so I might give the spinning classes a go. thanks

I'll have a look at the Kinsale place afterwards, wonder if I am entitled to a refund if I don't wish to be signed up to this new company ..

no chance of a refund from what the others are saying but he is honouring all subscriptions in new gyms

Has the gym at Kinsale roundabout opened???? Not one person from there has contacted me in the last 2 and a half weeks. Disgusted that they never told me that they closed down. Only thing I got from them was a text on the Tues eve saying classes and training sessions were canceled for the wed and that they would be in contact with me within 48 hours. I have heard nothing since. I was halfway through a 6 week programme but that was a waste of money as it should have been a continuous programme. I had liked the place but disgusted with the lack of information from them. Has anyone gone back to them in the other centres?

the misses went back to the one in glanmire, she is on a regime where she pays a week behind thankfully, so far its a new gym new name and very little equipment, i have a feeling it could disappear overnight

When the gym in fermoy closed I wasn't contacted and no one returned my calls , ended up tracking down pat Reynolds in glanmire and got my membership honoured in k2ny glanworth. Have to say personal training with them really worked but I didn't keep up classes after membership ran out , didn't feel comfortable paying up front since I had so much difficulty getting my money back. Feel sorry for the trainers , some nice people worked there.
Can anyone recommend a decent gym on north side of the city , I commute to cork from county limerick so anything on the fermoy or mallow side would suit best

Leisureworld in Knocknaheeny or Planet Leisure in Blackpool maybe your best bet.

There's a Crossfit gym in Mallow, not sure if that's of any interest to you...a bit more specialised than the others.

My wife joined K2NY at the Kinsale Road and paid €249 up front for four weeks and 7 days later it was shut. No one ever contacted my wife to explain the situation and she found out first hand when she turned up for a morning session on Wednesday September 12th to see equipment being removed.

I posted two messages on K2NY's website before it was taken down but I did not get any reply.
I emailed the City Sheriff's office and they informed me that they did not handle the equipment seizure and to contact the County Sheriff's office, which I did but I did not get any reply from them.
I found out online the name of the Auditors for K2NY that were present at the creditors meeting on September 21st and from them I got the name of the appointed liquidator.

I contacted the liquidator (Gerard Murphy, Midleton, Co. Cork) and explained the situation but he informed me that I won't get anything back because I am an unsecured creditor but that he has noted my financial loss for the records. I also pointed out to the liquidator the very short period of time between my payment and closure and that in my opinion it was suspicious but the liquidator did say that he investigate the matter of client payments just prior to the closure of K2NY. I have heard nothing back since.

I have also contacted the "office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement" and they said that if I think that a company was in breach of company law rules, then I can send them the complaint by filling in a form. I have not done this yet but I have to ask the questions
When did Pat Reynold's know that his business was in trouble and would go into voluntary liquidation?
What date was the last new client signed up by K2NY?
If new clients were signed up after Pat knew that K2NY was going into liquidation, then I think that is a breach of company rules or am I incorrect?

On a side note, I paid K2NY by Laser Card which was a big mistake as I have no right to get my money back by using "Chargeback". If I had paid by credit card, then I would have had a better chance of getting it back as there are a lot more "Chargeback" rights with credit cards. My bank told me that fraud did not take place as I authorised the transaction with my PIN. The small claims court do not handle liquidation cases.

Well his gym in fermoy shut in May (I think) , I had some job contacting him and had to meet him face to face at one of his other gyms to get satisfaction. I'd say he was in a bit of trouble before this so would believe he knew all his businesses were in trouble. Pity it was a cracking gym
