Does my memory serve me well or am I imagining that I saw single, ethernet ports in random places around campus? I honestly can't remember. Does anyone know of any lying around in any builiding? I wan't to bring in an ethernet cable and fly through the internet.

    Cheers.

AFAIK there are ethernet ports along the wall in the arts block.

    Eh... why?

Nearly everywhere there is wireless that gets similar speeds to a wired connection?

For me, the wireless is up and down. It's constantly unreliable. I'm not sure whether that's on my part or if it's related to the amount of people using it. I thought it would be safe to say one can achieve faster speeds via ethernet instead of wireless, no?

Yes, there are ethernet ports all over the place, but afaik they are all blocked by the computer centre.

Nope, most of them are open. But you have to login with your student id/password.

In our house there's an ethernet port in the kitchen that is blocked for some reason.

Same here. I think all the ones in the kitchens are blocked (in River anyway).

Grrr... ours in Rye worked at the start of the year which was great because we got to illegally download films together as a big happy family... But since we disconnected it we have to watch them in our rooms... It went from being an illegal film orgy to film masturbation which isn't social at all

UPC operate in the area and have a decent enough reputation. Eircom also. Steer clear of Clearwire!

    yep!!
I was on the phone earlier in my sitting room and I saw you and your girlfriend (who is lovely!) walking into the house across the road from me. felt like a total stalker!! =]
We have UPC, had internet and phone with them for a long time, but dad upgraded the television phone and broadband. It's amazing!!!
dad downloaded an album in 2 minutes earlier!!

UPC ftw, I've never had anything else, but that's cause UPC are so good.

Only thing is that you have to be careful not to go over your limit as they do charge quite a bit for overuse

They've messed up our home phone, we haven't been able to receive incoming calls for five days now, but they're trying to resolve it and they're refunding us the days. Good service.
