    Hey there,

Hoping someone may be able to suggest some good eating/pubing/clubbing options in Athlone for a Stag. There'll be 10 of us. My guess is that we prob don't want a sit down meal and pub grub would probably suit us best. A general pub crawl could obviously work ending up somewhere for a dance but would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

    Cormac

41's is a decent pub for food/watching football, a good put for a group of lads on the sauce! The Palace over the bridge is decent as well. Everything is close to everything in Athlone (with a few pubs across the bridge) so a pub crawl doesnt have to be organised, just leave one pub and fall into the next!!

Although if you are looking for ideas here's one...

    Seans

    Castle

    The Snug

    The Palace

    Gertie Brownes

    Harveys

    Ricks

    41s

    Nuts Corner

    Durtys

    Flannerys

    O’Neills

    Q/Coppers/Karma

Cheers, thanks very much for that. Is there a nightclub you're recommend? Will it be hard to get into for 10 of us on a Sat night?

EDIT: Ah I see Karma is a club! Thanks!

Q and Karma are clubs, they are both close to one another. Then there's the Lighthouse casino for after the club! Split up into smaller groups and yis should be fine!

Sorry about all the questions! :D

Any ideas for a restaurant that you may get a set menu or something like 20 euro a head max that may give ya a bit of steak? Had a look on menupages.ie but thought maybe you would have a bit of insight as I find trying to suss out the scene through that site a bit of pot luck at times.

Can't really help you there, but there are plenty of eating options in Athlone, all close to one another, just a few options:

    www.theolivegrove.ie
    www.thymerestaurant.ie
    www.topdeckbistro.com

    Italian/Pizza:
Pizza Mama - bring your own wine
    Pavarottis
    Di Bella

    Thai:
    www.kinkhaothai.ie - Top notch grub

    chinese:

There are decent Restaurants in Radisson Hotel and Sheraton Hotel as well as bar menus

    Pub grub:
    The Palace
Prince Bar (although more sandwiches/paninis etc)
    41's

    Fast food:
    Gourmet Burger Bar
    The Mad Hoor

And for a great experience go to the 'White Swan' Cafe above Ricks bar. Like you grannies house (or great grannies!), only a restaurant/cafe!

..and just on the outskirts of the town centre heading towards the college is a pub called the Shack, which is great for pub grub.

I want to just say avoid the Palace as it is full of kids and mainly only kids. 41's is fairly rough, garda called there a few times recently, draws in a rough sort, as does o neills and careys - avoid all these pubs.

Ricks is dead and oddly arranged, but can accomodate a group, as can harveys. Gertie Brownes is grand, but full of older people and can be hard to get seats/standing nook if you arrive late enough.

Prince bar is another odd one, has an upstairs which is more often than not closed off. but you can get a crowd there together. Coppers is another rough enough pub, and always seems to undergoing redesigning etc...

Food I think if you dont want sit down, you are kinda at a loss. There is great food in kin khao, best thai in ireland i think, olive grove has good lunch/early bird, its a shame rayners closed they did great pub grub without formality.

the prince do lunch either soup and sandwiches or if you go in a bit further there is a carvery. Sheraton do lunch too,

for chinese, the row inn row is nice, as is kens
    for indian, saagar is decent,
italian there is a good few to pick from both sides of the town,

set menus like you want you will mostly find in the restaurants, there are loads of restaurants in the town, and not as many pubs serving food. kin khao have early bird, most places do, for about €20
