Nice one for finding this.Any idea what type of fighter he's facing?

This is Paulie's big break, a chance to firmly establish himself as contender on the European scene.

The EU would be a nice step in the right direction, and while he's having to go away to try and win it, doing so might enable Paulie to headline some shows here at home should he win.

Chianella is a little bit of an unknown property outside Italy, but when you look at the results he's had against the better known guys he's faced you could make the assumption that he may not be up to Paulie's level. He's also suffered early stoppage losses to pretty much anyone of decent class and judging by that you would expect Paulie may be able to do the same.

Best of luck to the youngest of the Hyland brothers, we could do with having an EU champion again(Andy Murray no longer holds that belt).

despite being relatively "feather fisted" - I predict a Hyland KO victory!

Not meaning to put a 'dampner' on this, but what does this say about the standard at EU level if a feather fisted Hyland can get the KO and be crowned the best in the EU? But, I think it's just a belt really.
Beating Kiko or Munroe would give him a real claim on the Euro scene.

The EU champion is almost never the best in the EU, generally because the holder of the EBU(European) title tends to come from the EU and of course if a European fighter holds a World title they can't fight for the EU title either.

The English champion is almost never the best English fighter either, yes it is just a belt. It's a belt which helps raise your European rankings, and get you fights against other European rated fighters(often at home aswell). It's a real stepping stone towards fighting for the full European title and due to that this is a big positive for Paulie.

Walshb us boxing fans have to be sceptical of a lot of things otherwise we'll get conned(eg. Lee McAllister fans in Scotland thinking he's a two weight World Champion), but if you always look for the negative in life you'll become a dour, bitter man with little delight from anything.

No ones having the wool pulled over their eyes here, we all know this isn't the best two fighters in the European Union and even these boxers fans will know that. So just enjoy it for what it is, a step in the right direction for young Hyland and his team showing some balls by fighting away in Italy in order to further his career.

    Hyland for sure ;)

And I'm sure they can use it at the bargaining table when it comes to future fights.

Its the kind of belt that if a young fighter wins it means they are one to look out for in the future on the european scene.

As Paulie holds the Irish belt: does a fighter have to give up the irish title to fight for the eu or ebu belts?

No just like the full European title you may hold national titles at the same time as it, so Paulie will maintain his position as Irish Super-Bantamweight champion.

An example of this was Andy Murray defending his Irish title v Oisín Fagan recently despite having won the EU title in the time since he first gained the Irish Lightweight title.

did he win Sligo? I am waiting on a text from one of the lads who went over with him.

Haven't been on here in a while, its good to see your journalism is coming along well. I've been reading all your stuff, good man.:)

anyway, back to Paulie. I was going to head over to Italy for this, but the missus was having a barney. Hopefully he done the business. I was chatting to him on Tuesday and he seemed is great spirits and looked to top condition.

just got the text right there after I posted. Paulie put in a composed display and dominated the fight to win on points. going to give one of the lads a call to get the run down. good win for Paulie, hopefully it will lead to bigger things for the lad.

    yeah - UD!

Business done - the Hylands dont realise what they have - with the right promotion they could be massive - really massive!

I think they know what they have, I just think Peters doesn't know what he is missing, or any other promotor also. three pro brothers, Dubs and at least two who could win a few decent trinkets, not bad at all

I thinks its half and dozen of one and 6 of the other to be honest.

The Hylands dont seem like they want to let go of control - and who can blame them, but I dont think they will ever really get big until they do.

    Catch numbero 22!

Agree to be honest. I can see why they are like that though. They had a rough time at the start of their pro career in england and probably feel doing it themselves is the best way for them. As fas as im aware, paulie isnt with maloney anymore. If they dont get good financial backing behind them soon, their careers could pass them by.

Smashing result....for all the talk about Germany, I have seen some terrible decisions handed down when it comes to Italian fighters, and it doesn't even have to be in Italy. Remember that wee flyweight who got robbed in Belfast? Mission very much accomplished from Hylands P.O.V.;)

In favour of nothing, he was stripped for not defending it. It's not necessarily a big deal if he can still get himself a European shot in the not too distant future, although his chances of doing that would of been much better with the EU belt.

Damaen Kelly was the Flyweight who was robbed in Belfast, although at the time he was up at Bantamweight fighting for the European title against Simone Maludrottu . Italy is definitely tougher than Germany to win a decision.
