A4 2.0 TFSI Quattro timing belt

    Hi,

    My car has 68k on the clock, just about to get it serviced. Would I need to get the timing belt changed at this stage?

    Miles or km?
    If it's miles, you should be looking to get it done ASAP

    Timing belt on the 2.0TFSI doesn't need to be changed to 180k kms OP

    bg -> where did you hear that its 180km? I dont have my manual to hand to check it.

    It's in the service booklet for your car - should be the last page or two before the service stamps start. Not sure what the timeframe is if you dont do that mileage - think it could be 6 years.

    There is a big difference on the intervals on the VW/audi engines on petrol/diesel engines. The 1.9 diesels need done at 60k miles & 2.0TDI at 80k miles

    Hi bf, did you see that in the service booklet? The one I have isn't the origninal, it is a replacement and all it has is pages for the garage to stamp the booklet. It doesnt say anything about the timing belt in any of the cars paperwork that I have.

    I *think* all VAG belts have a 4 year limit regardless of mileage.

    If this is the case I'd get it changed. Doesn't have to be a main dealer either

    Yep - from the service booklet 2.0 TFSI 180,000kms (115,000 miles) no mention of years

    Cheers. The local Audi garage told me 60,000 miles but I think they just want me to fork out when I'm getting my service done.

    That doesn't make sense, park it up for 4 years and change it, or put up 200'000 miles in 4 years and change it

    If it's not driven belts can perish and crack leading to failure.

    They have a limit of 60k miles or 4 years whichever comes first. That's what it is on mine anyway. I had the belt done at 36k as the car was 4 years old.

    Point but generally rubber that's exposed to the outdoor elements perishes I've had many cars over 4 years old on their original tb's

    Depends on whether you want to take the chance or not, get the belt done or risk wrecking your engine.

    I sold belts in their boxes over 4 years old and repaired opel heads with only 40k on the belts as they are prone to going.. General rule of thumb apart from opels,renaults and alfas 50-60k change the belt..
