Has anyone done it down there and recommend someone to book it with?

    I really wish I had.

The Scuba diving forum might be worth a try, lots of experienced divers on there.

    Try these guys...

We did a full day tour to cape point with them and it was brilliant. Its just a small company, the guy that owns it is great fun. Didn't do the shark diving but imagine its good too.

Just remember that this time of year is probably not the best time to see sharks around Cape Town! You would have a better chance in winter time over there ie June/July/August.

The companies tend not to tell you this and won't refund if you don't actually see a shark.

This is true for the areas close to Cape Town, i.e. False Bay. However, you will see them year round at Gansbaai, which is about 2.5 hours from Cape Town, past Hermanus, where you will see the whales up to about November.

I would suggest you try apexpredators.com. They are the people who brought the crews from the likes of Planet Earth and Air Jaws to film breaching sharks. They are super, and involved in shark research, so everything is done with the sharks best interests at heart. They operate in False Bay though, so only run trips until about the end of August, but after that they have an arrangement with a reputable company in Gansbaai.

Went with these guys in September 2 yrs ago . Picked up in hotel in Camps Bay and returned to same . Its a long day , think I was picked up at 7am and returned about 6pm . Only saw 1 shark , but it was worth as it circled the boat for about 40 mins , cruising below the cage and past the front of it .
Its called shark diving but its really ducking your head under water with a face mask , while trying to keep your arms inside the cage . It seems the bubbles from oxygen tanks upset the poor sharks (as does flash photography !!!).
All in all a great experience , but it is a long day from Capetown. If you are driving the garden route , stop overnight along the way as if you dont see a shark , they have a free or discounted rate the following day.
Also , bring Anti-Sickness tablets . Me and 1 other guy took them and were the only ones of the 8 on the boat that werent sick :D
