It's study next week, so I think it's safe to assume there's nothing really going on in the college.

There's a parade in the town, run for and by the town... Afraid that's all I know!

yep. There's a parade. The NUIM swimming teachers will be out in force, trying our best to fill classes and look like we're having fun...

The parade starts off good and then fizzles out fairly quickly. Not much to be seen really. I'm staying studying all day instead!

Is there swimming lessons for students in the college?

Is there swimming lessons for students in the college?

There are adult lessons on Tuesdays (and I think they're bringing back Monday lessons too now - or maybe it's the other way around). And there's a swimming club as well, which people who can swim already can go to and improve. But no lessons for students as such. There really ought to be though...

It's about €100 for 10 weeks of lessons for kids, not sure about adult lessons. I suspect about the same or maybe a bit more. Though I think prices have been dropped recently. I really ought to know this as I work there... I do know our wages were axed 20% until such time as the numbers climb back up - hence recruitment drive on Paddy's day.

Another option would be private lessons I suppose. At the moment the rate for them is €30 for a half hour (and that can be shared between a number of people I think). Of that, the teacher gets €20 and the pool gets €10 so it's quite lucrative, but there isn't much available...

I suppose another option might be to have student lessons on a sunday... the pool opens on a sunday from 12-2 but it's closed for the rest of the day as far as I know. So if enough students were interested, maybe something could be arranged then. That might suit students who live in or within a car journey of Maynooth better than holding lessons during the week. I'll give it some more thought. Do you think there'd be much demand for lessons for students?

I taught my best friend to swim when we were about 10.

I pushed him into the deep end of the pool and he quickly figured out how not to drown.

In hindsight it probably wasn't my greatest idea.

well I'd definately love it if the college did swimming lessons! i just can't afford 100 euro, if they did them cheaper for students I would definately go. or maybe a pay as you go option? i used to do aqua aerobics like that. e5 a go, sometimes I'd go 3 times a week sometimes none. would love if swimming lessons were like that. hope thats some use to ya.:)

Oh well get an early bus then, because they're all diverted coming out from town as well. 66 stops at Ormond Quay, goes over Capel street bridge and will be loading up at the Civic Offices.

*just in case you were wondering!*
